Corwin Robert Starks

April 19, 1983 - November 11, 2015

After a two year courageous battle with cancer the family is saddened to announce that Corwin Robert Starks, 34 years of Naicam passed away peacefully at Humboldt District Hospital on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 surrounded by his family. Corwin was born in Spalding on April 19, 1981 to Robert and Frances (nee Pruden) Starks the youngest child of four and their only son.  He obtained all of his education in Naicam.  Corwin loved hockey and when he was very young he’d have his sisters and mother take shots on him in the basement.  This helped prepare him for his excellent hockey career as a goalie.  He played minor hockey in Naicam then went on to play AAA midget hockey for the Tisdale Trojans.  He then moved on to the WHL where he played for the Medicine Hat Tigers.  Then due to an injury he came back to Saskatoon and played with the Wesley’s Hockey Team.  While in Saskatoon he worked at Red Carpet Coffee Services and in the restaurant industry. He also loved to play baseball and was usually seen on the pitchers mound or behind the home plate as a back catcher.  Golfing also brought him much pleasure and was another sport he excelled at.  He appreciated the family support he received when they would be in the stands cheering him on at all the games around the province.   He also enjoyed fishing always trying to catch the “big one”.  He later worked at Lilydale in Wynyard.  In 2008 he decided to return home and farm with his father.  Corwin loved the farm life and enjoyed all aspects of farming, with harvest being his favourite.  He was a great uncle and loved to babysit his nieces and nephews, they brought much enjoyment to his life.  He was the closest to his sister Sarah they were in separable they were the “best of friends” and shared many wonderful memories.  The family pet Lily was very much a part of his life and during his illness would continually be at his side.  Unfortunately all his strength and courage was not enough to beat the disease of Cancer.  His wonderful caring and loving,  personality will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his parents Robert and Frances Starks of Naicam; three sisters and their families: Arlene (Jamie) Reinheimer of Saskatoon and sons Tyler, Christopher and Joshua; Cheryl Starks (Derrick Wilson) of Naicam and girls Asia Shoemaker, Keanna Clark-Wilson and Jayda Wilson; and Sarah Starks (Brandon Kerr) of Okotoks, AB and girls Jasmin Kerr and Jewels Kerr: uncles and aunts: Aurel Pruden and Ron Pruden of Quill lake, Lois Eberle of Spalding, Lorne (Kathy) Pruden of Quill Lake, Shirley (Barry) Armstrong of Nanaimo, BC and Thelma (Sid) Roenspies of Langenburg; and by numerous cousins.  Corwin was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Henry and Beatrice Pruden and paternal grandparents Reg and Ann Starks and step grandma Rose Starks and his cousin Bradley Pruden.  A Prayer Service was held on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. and Funeral Mass was held on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Both services were held from St. George Roman Catholic Church, Naicam.  Interment followed at St. George R.C. Cemetery, Naicam.  Memorial donations in Corwin’s memory may be directed to Saskatchewan Cancer Agency.  Funeral arrangements were entrusted to MALINOSKI & DANYLUIK FUNERAL HOME Humboldt 306-682-1622.
