Gordon McDonald Mawson

May 29, 1953 ~ July 15, 2017 (age 64) 64 Years Old

Gordon McDonald Mawson 64 years of Saskatoon passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital on Sunday, July 15, 2017.  Gordon was born on May 29, 1953 to Gordon and Mary (nee Hynd) Mawson in Saskatoon.  He obtained all his education in Saskatoon and graduated from Evan Hardy.  Following graduation he began employment for various construction companies in the area.  Gordon later decided that paving was the career he wanted and received a 25 year recognition award from Acey Paving.  Almer Kowalenko his employer for most of those years valued Gordon’s work ethic and treated him more like a son than an employee and made sure he was always well looked after. The company changed hands and he ended his career with Delta Paving Ltd.  Gordon was a car buff right from a young man.  He was very proud of his 1974 Trans Am, he made sure it had the horse power needed to win a race or have people’s heads turn when he drove by.  He loved specialty cars with lots of horse power.  Gordon always took pride and maintained these vehicles.  He also had a few “Cutlasses” through out his years.  Gordon enjoyed listening to music especially Rock.  He enjoyed listening to his favourite music on records, 8 tracks, cassettes and cd’s, but he preferred records and always had an LP on the turntable right up to present.  Gordon always had a furry friend by his side he loved dogs and had many through out the years.  In November of 1973 he married Arlene Gowen and from this union two son’s were born.  He adored them and was very proud of his son’s and their accomplishments.  He loved spending time with them doing a variety of things from playing cards, talking about cars to sitting around a fire sharing a refreshment and good story.  He also loved sharing these interests with extended family and many friends.  Gordon loved life to the fullest and enjoyed having a good time. Unfortunately in the fall of 2016 Gordon’s health began to deteriorate and he was no longer able to enjoy these pleasures of life.  Gordon’s friendly personality and smile will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his two sons, two grandsons and one step granddaughter: Lindsey Mawson of Saskatoon; Lloyd (Alisha) Mawson of Martensville and sons Spencer, Emmett and step granddaughter Danielle Weightman; sisters: Elaine Konoby and Gwen Forrest; sister-in-law Elsie Mawson and mother of his son’s Arlene Gowen; all of Saskatoon and by numerous nieces and nephews.  Gordon was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Mary Mawson; brother Marvin Mawson and brother-in-law Danny Forrest.  Memorial donations in Gordon’s memory maybe directed to a Charity Of Choice.  A private family funeral and interment will be held at a later date.
