Louis Aloysius Koob

The death of Mr. Louis Koob, 87 years of Bruno, occurred on Monday, December 11, 2017.  Louis was born to Dominic and Anna (nee Hinz) Koob on April 7, 1930, a twin brother to Louise, on the family homestead near Viscount.  He grew up in the Lucasville district, east of Meacham and attended Lucasville School and then St. Peter’s College in Muenster for high school.  Louis lived on the family farm with his parents and operated a mixed livestock and grain farm.  He married Mearl (nee Boak) Harris on April 15, 1978.  Louis was active in church and community as a member of Viscount Knights of Columbus, original shareholder of Poundmaker Feedlot at Lanigan, 4-H Leader, member of Meacham & District Historical Society, and obtained his Boiler/Steam Papers.  Louis could be considered the original “Canadian Picker”, he had an uncanny knack for finding unique items to buy and then reselling them, always wheeling and dealing.  He was a jack of all trades, handy at woodworking, welder, mechanic, electrician, barber, and local historian.  He enjoyed working with his Percheron Horses, travelling, skiing, sports, camping and fishing especially with his grandkids.  Louis was a social person and loved visiting with all people, especially enjoying his coffee time with the guys at the junction.  He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Monique Koob of Meacham; four grandchildren:  Kevin Koob (Zoe Mireau Hiebert) of Saskatoon, Christine Koob (fiancé Andrew Patterson) of Devon, AB, Dean Koob (Reanna Boschee) of Meacham, and Ian Koob of Meacham; twin sister Louise Stang of Wilkie, brother Francis (Rose) Koob of Cold Lake, AB; sister Cecilia (Mike) McGrath of Calgary, AB; brothers-in-law Daniel Loehr of Watson and Aaron Boak of Assiniboia; sister-in-law Alice Boak of Saskatoon and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his wife Mearl Koob;  parents Dominic and Anna Koob; parents-in-law Aaron & Isobel Boak; sister Stella Loehr; and brothers: Anthony (Mary) Koob, Clement (Clara) Koob, Daniel (Helen) Masterson; brothers-in-law Jacob Stang and George Boak and sister-in-law Gladyse Boak.  The Prayer Service for Louis was held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. and the Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.  Both services were held at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, Bruno.  Interment followed at St. Anthony’s (Saxby) Roman Catholic Cemetery, Meacham district.
