Donald Schemenauer Obituary

Donald Schemenauer, age 87, of Humboldt, SK peacefully passed away at home surrounded by love early Easter morning March 31, 2024. Don was born May 31, 1936 in Lake Lenore, SK to Walter and Hilda (Miller) Schemenauer. He grew up on the family farm near St. James. In his youth he was known as an exceptional baseball player. Don had the opportunity to try out for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the United States but his dad wanted him to stay home and farm so that is what he did. On May 28, 1962 he married Audrey Fyhn in St. James Church. Together they farmed and raised their four kids on the family farm Don had grown up on. In 1999 they sold the farm and retired in Humboldt.  In 2010 Don discovered he had an adult son named Alvin Hebert. He enjoyed getting to know Alvin and his wonderful family. Don would often remark that he sure wished he would have known him longer.

Don loved hunting and fishing and was able to still do both almost until his final day. He enjoyed playing and later watching curling on TV. He was an avid card player who always had a deck of cards close at hand and would never turn down a game. Don always had a mischievous twinkle in his bright blue eyes. Over his lifetime he had many wild and crazy adventures with friends and family. These stories when retold have provided us with endless entertainment.

Don was extremely quick witted and loved to tease. He had colourful opinions on the events of the world and kept us all laughing with his animated take on things. Donnie was one of a kind! His absence will leave a huge void in our family, but we are grateful to have been blessed to have him in our lives for as long as we did.

Don is survived by and will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 61 years Audrey; his children: SCOTT (Denise) grandchildren: Tiffany Hauser (Derek: Brody & Addison), Rochelle (Joshua & Jesse), Kimberly Teiber (Tanner: Ronan) and Ryan; DARRYL (Sandra) grandchildren: Kayla and Steven; RUSSELL (Tracy) grandchildren: Ali McLauchlan (Michael), Kyle and Lindsay; GAIL DECORBY (Maury) grandchildren: Merek and Renee; ALVIN HEBERT (Ann) grandchildren: Blair (Deanna: Karter & Jordan), Chad (Kaylyn: Davin Theo & Rory), Allison O'Keeffe (Sean) and Chelsea Olafson (Jesse: Stella); his sister: Deldene Voellmecke; sisters in law: Deanna Jackson (Gordon); Bev Tate (Peter); brothers in law: David Fyhn (Nancy); Kevin Fyhn (Cheryl) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents: Walter and Hilda Schemenauer; parents in law: Alvin and Hilde Fyhn; brothers in law: Alan Voellmecke, Bryan Fyhn, and Ken Tate.
