Alphonse Ronald Greuel

The death of Mr. Alphonse Ronald Greuel, 87 years of Bruno, occurred on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Humboldt District Hospital.  Alphonse was born on April 16, 1932 at Bruno to John and Margaret (nee Koffing) Greuel.  He grew up on the family farm and attended Kildrum School.  Following his education, Alphonse began farming the home place.  He also worked for a few years at Hillcrest Farms.  He met Phyllis Peterson when she was a working as a teacher at Lucasville.  They were married in Wynyard on April 15, 1963 and settled on tthe family farm.  Together they raised a family of four boys.  Alphonse enjoyed ball and hockey in his younger years and then coached his boys while they were growing up.  He was a Montreal Canadiens fan and faithfully watched and cheered for his team.  In 1995, they retired and moved in to Bruno.  Alphonse enjoyed visiting with family and friends, especially over a good game of cards.  Alphonse will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis Greuel of Bruno; their four sons, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren:  Darrel (Carol) Greuel of Dinsmore and family Cory (fiancée, Cheryl) of Wiseton, Cody of Dinsmore, and Nevada of Outlook; Larry (Glenda) Greuel of Saskatoon and family Carla, Adam, and Dustin, all of Saskatoon and Tyler of Mesa, AZ; Bradley (Cindy) Greuel of LaRonge and family Cassandra (Bert) and son Jax of Prince Albert, Mikaela (Keegan) and children Nathaniel and Elizabeth of LaRonge, and Annika of LaRonge; and Scott Greuel of Melfort; sister-in-law Mary Peterson of Wynyard and numerous nieces and nephews.  Alphonse was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret Greuel; sisters and brother:  Hubert (Yvonne) Greuel, Clara (John) Wilkie, Irene (Walter) Fowler, Agnes (Laurie) Lowe, Christina (Charlie) Gibb; and in-laws of the Peterson family:  Dudley Peterson and Jane (Bill) Clark.  The Funeral Mass for Alphonse was held on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, Bruno, celebrated by Fr. Pius Schroh.  Interment  followed in the Parish Cemetery.  Memorial Donations in Alphonse’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan or the Bruno Friendship Center.
