Helen Fahl Obituary

Helen Elizabeth Fahl 78 years of Humboldt passed away peacefully at Humboldt District Hospital on Monday, February 19, 2018.  Helen was born on October 18, 1939 in Humboldt to Frank and Mary (nee Kankel) Buchacher.  Helen obtained her education at St. James Country School.  Following her education she worked for various businesses in Humboldt such as: Ohio Café, Sears, Bruisers to name a few.  On October 4, 1960 she married George Fahl. Helen and George were neighbours as children where they played and grew up together and transitioned into dating and then marriage.  Helen and George lived in Humboldt until 1972 then they purchased George’s parents home place south east of Humboldt.  They were blessed with a daughter Cheryl and then later adopted Neil to make their family complete.  Helen was not an indoor “frilly” lady she was a strong hard working woman.  She enjoyed being at George’s side doing everything from fixing fences, gates, roofs, barns and hauling grain.  She loved the outdoors and also enjoyed every aspect of the farm life as they ran a mixed farm where the jobs varied. She was involved with her children in 4-H, helping them prepare for various horse and cattle shows.  In later years, Helen spent many hours being outdoors and cutting grass.  Helen also worked at the Bella Vista in housekeeping for numerous years. Her family meant everything to her.  Helen and George’s life was shattered when Neil passed away tragically in 1992.  Helen’s life became enriched when the grandchildren started to arrive. Helen enjoyed sharing the country life with them and was present to watch Scott play hockey and Alana play soccer.  She also enjoyed spending time with Dylan when the opportunity presented itself.  When the great grandchildren started to arrive she was overjoyed with happiness and love.  Helen spent quality time with Tenley and was so proud to cuddle with Millie. She will be remembered for her flavourful cinnamon buns and her regular dinner buns.  They will savour the few bags of treats she had saved for her family. Helen was very devoted to her husband George. In 2006 George moved to St. Mary’s Villa due to failing health and for 11 years Helen visited him twice a day.  Throughout those 11 years she only missed one week of being by his side.  In January 2017 George passed away and Helen’s life changed. She missed her partner immensely whom she had shared her life since childhood.  The best way to describe Helen may be that she was “small but mighty” for a little woman she packed a lot of strength when tackling any job on the farm.  You always knew where you stood with Helen she was a “true” friend to many and had many “true” friends in return.  She enjoyed coffeeing and visiting with her friends.  Everyone will remember Helen’s sense of humour and honest comments on issues that she felt strongly about. Helen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her one daughter, three grandchildren and two great granddaughters: Cheryl (Greg) Brockman and family Scott (Ashley) Brockman and daughter Millie and Alana Brockman (Chad Bauer) and daughter Tenley; Neil’s son Dylan Brockman all of Humboldt; sisters: Marion (Joe) Bloski of Humboldt, Phyllis Willenborg of Humboldt, Margie Burak of Leduc, AB and Bernice (Clarence) Mechor of Lac La Biche, AB; and brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Levina Buchacher of Fort SK, Darlene Buchacher of Humboldt, Otto (Pauline) Fahl of Humboldt,  Marcella Fahl of Prince Albert, Eugene Schedlowsky of Saskatoon, Barry McGladdery of Rosetown, and Ernie Mussato of Surrey, BC;  and by numerous nieces and nephews.  Helen was predeceased by her parents Frank and Mary Buchacher; son Neil Fahl; husband George Fahl; parents-in-law Alois and Mary (nee Wessolowski) Fahl; and two brothers: Ed Buchacher and Walter Buchacher. A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Augustine R.C. Church Humboldt.  Celebrated by, Fr. Joseph Salihu.  Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery Humboldt.  Memorial donations in Helen’s memory maybe directed to Humboldt District Hospital Foundation (General Equipment Fund).
