Jerome "Jerry" Angelstad Obituary

November 29, 1952 - August 15, 2018

Jerome Patrick Angelstad, age 65 of Humboldt passed away peacefully with family by his side at Humboldt District Hospital on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, the feast of the Assumption of Mary, Jerry’s Heavenly Mother. Jerry was born on November 29, 1952 in Humboldt, first son of Norman and Margaret (nee Thurmeier) Angelstad. After graduating from Humboldt Collegiate Institute, he attended Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon where he obtained a certificate in Cabinet Making. Upon his return to Humboldt in 1972, he had the opportunity to learn the art of shoe repair from John Kolba, a professional cobbler from Poland. Jerry apprenticed and purchased “Quick Cobbler” which he owned and operated for 45 years, serving his many devoted customers. Jerry’s childhood hobby for leather work became part of his business. His leather creations (belts, purses, wallets, equipment belts etc) can be found in homes and businesses across North America. Jerry was a long time member of the Shoe Service Institute of America through which he won many awards for shoe repair and merchandizing. He regularly attended conventions across the USA, which expanded his knowledge in the field of shoe making/repair, an art he dearly loved. Jerry was a long time dedicated member of the Humboldt Knights of Columbus and helped out wherever and whenever he was needed. Jerry was one of the founding members of the Humboldt Toastmasters, happily serving in many roles in the organization for over 30 years. This organization became like a second family to him and he always looked forward to the meetings. Jerry was a member of Volkssport Walking Club, Carlton Trail Ski Club and on the committee to “Save the Water Tower”. Whatever group Jerry joined he gave 110%. Other interests Jerry had were rock climbing, hiking and gardening - he was very proud of his produce. He loved trees and worked hard to beautify his yard, which is like a park. He also taught leather crafts to 4H students, loved mind teasers, jigsaw puzzles, ventriloquism and drawing.  Jerry had a special affinity for children and loved to teach them the magic of illusion. He had a special relationship with all his nieces and nephews whom he spent hours teaching the art and secrets of magic.  Aidra was one of his star students and Jerry was filled with joy whenever he watched her amaze people with magic.  Jerry’s wonderful gentle caring soul will be sadly missed and lovingly  remembered by: Mother MARGARET Angelstad of Humboldt; Eight siblings:  Judy Angelstad (Peter) of Beach Meadows, NS and family Jason, Jonathon (Trisha) and their children Josh, Emma and Oskar, and  Michael; Don (Joanne) Angelstad of Candle Lake and family Jill, Blair, Lindsay, Rochelle, Christa and Kim; David Angelstad of Calgary, AB; Susan Angelstad of Hanley and daughter Krista (Seamus) of Armagh N.
