Larry Courchene Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Larry Courchene, 60 years of Humboldt, on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. Larry was born on August 6, 1958 in Regina and adopted by Marcel and Marie (nee Reinhart) Courchene on August 11, 1958. He grew up at St. Benedict where he attended school. During his Grade 7 year, the family moved to Humboldt, where Larry attended St. Augustine School and then HCI. He was very involved in football and was a member of the HCI Mohawks. Later in life he became part of the coaching team. He was also a member of the Blues Brothers Broomball team. Larry had a love for cars so becoming a car salesman at Colony seemed a perfect job which he excelled at. With an entrepreneurial spirit, he ventured into business, first with his Dad at the Mohawk Gas Station and later at his brew pub, Chubby’s. Larry later headed out to BC for a time, working for O-Two systems, which was a medical supply company. He had the opportunity to ride along in the ambulance and witness all types of medical emergencies. Wanting to return to Saskatchewan, he opened a Wellness Centre in Humboldt where he sold medical supplies and then worked for Lifeline. Larry worked for Securtek based out of Yorkton for a few years, until health issues forced him into retirement in 2014. He met the love of his life, Kim in June 2011 and they were married on February 15, 2013, enjoying a memorable honeymoon to Cancun. Larry loved to race cars – he was a Funny Car driver and part of Kevin Therres’ Race Team. Larry was a Foodie, who loved to cook, preparing delicious meals to share with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting as a young boy with his dad and continued over the years with friends. Larry was a Social Butterfly, he had a great sense of humour and could visit with anyone, friend and stranger alike. His good friends became like family and he will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him. A special thank you to Kevin Brockman for all his support in Larry’s final hours and to Darcy Keller for her continued support. Larry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 6 years, Kim Courchene of Humboldt, SK; his three stepsons, Tyler (Whitney), Jessie (Sarah) and Franklin (Sharilyn); sister-in-law Anna Morris; parents-in-law Ken & Monique Cockell; two sisters: Sharon (Warren) Goddard of Terrace, BC and Annette (Merv) Collin of Peterson, SK; their families: Amanda (Riley), Janelle (Kyle), Taylor (Angele), Justin (Deanna), Kyle (Brittney), Tina, Lisa, Sarah (Catlynn), Leanne (Greg), and Christa. He was predeceased by his parents, Marcel and Marie Courchene and by numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. The Funeral Mass for Larry was held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 10:30am at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, celebrated by Fr. Joseph Salihu. Interment followed in St. Augustine Parish Cemetery. Memorial Donations in Larry’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Humboldt District Hospital Foundation, General Equipment Fund.
