Russell Suchy Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Russell Suchy, 50 years strong from Guernsey on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Lanigan Integrated Hospital.   Russell Alan Suchy was born on September 21, 1968 in Humboldt to Walter and Carol (nee Twarzynski) Suchy.  He grew up spending the majority of his childhood in the Guernsey area.  Following his schooling, he was employed at Beaver Lumber in Lanigan and Tollifson Cable.  In September 1989, he began a lifelong career, at what is now the Nutrien Potash Mine, Allan.  Russell was a leader of the Emergency Response Team, both as a  competitor and then as a coach;  helping the team accomplish many victories.  As a young man, he played hockey and fastball where his competitive nature helped his teams win many games.  On July 22, 1995, Russell married the love of his life and dance partner, Lola Fazakas, and their marriage was blessed with three amazing children – Jordan, Dalton and Amara.  Russell was a proud father and his family always came first in his life, he spent many hours coaching his boy’s hockey teams and was Amara’s biggest fan, attending all of her dance recitals and performances.  The family lived in Guernsey for the first years while Russ put his heart and soul into building his family’s dream home.  The family spent countless hours out on the water at Stoney Lake – fishing, boating, tubing and wakeboarding.  In the winter, they had a passion for snowmobiling together and ski trips to Banff and Whitefish over the years.  They were fortunate to travel together to Mexico several times, Disneyland, and to New Zealand, Australia and Hawaii.  Closer to home, they attended many Rider games and loved camping.  Russ and his family spent most of their days landscaping the yard and took great joy sitting around the fire in their peaceful backyard.  He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan and was working on restoring his dream car, 1968 Firebird, which he cherished.   He was handy and could fix anything even if it seemed impossible.  He enjoyed spending time at the Gradin Farm helping during harvest by driving combine.  Russell was strong willed and had a positive mind set. If you got in a disagreement with him, you almost never came out on the winning side.  Of all of his accomplishments, Russell’s family meant everything to him and he was a wonderful, caring and supportive father and husband.  He always made time for those who were most important to him.  He made us into the individuals and family we are today.  Russ will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his strong and beautiful wife of 24 years, Lola; their incredible children:  Jordan, Dalton and Amara; his mom Carol Suchy; two brothers and two sisters:  Patricia (Brian) Prentice, Rick (Elan) Suchy, Ron (Cindy) Suchy, and Christine (Jamie) Gradin; parents-in-law George Fazakas and Elizabeth Ollinger; brothers-and-sisters-in-law:  Tina (Corey) Monz, Fabian (Vicky) Fazakas, Vanessa (Jamie) Sebastian, Priscilla (John) White and Bianca (James) Buresh; and nephews and nieces:  Kyle (Alana), Chelsea, Aaron, Scott, Jade, Shaya, Hanah, Zach, Ryan, Grayson, Jesse, Austin, Kalen, Presley, Taylor, Brayden, Tavayn, Bailie, Harper, Dexter, Scarlett and Dominic.  He was predeceased by his dad, Walter Suchy.  A Celebration of Russell’s life was held on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Humboldt Curling Rink, Humboldt Uniplex.  Memorial donations in Russell’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lanigan.
