Vernon Bergeson Obituary

Vernon Rodney Bergeson, 91 years of Lanigan, SK passed away peacefully at his residence with his family at his side.  Vernon was born on March 17, 1928 to Ruben and Lydia (nee Johnson) Bergeson at Archerwill, SK.  He obtained all of his education at Archerwill School.  Following his education he helped his brother with   carpentry work in the Dafoe area. Later Vernon moved out to Rocky Mountain House, AB where he worked for Imperial Oil on the cutting line.  From here he ventured to Elk Water, AB where he worked for Alberta Parks,  building and maintaining new camp sites. As a young person Vernon was known to be a little bit mischievous and loved motorbikes, especially Harleys.  He lived life to the fullest. Vernon was blessed with a son Billy. Later Vernon met the love of his life, Cecelia Paul and they began their life together as a family.  In 1980 Vernon and Cecelia moved to Lanigan where Vernon began employment at PCS Lanigan where he was involved with the set of the camp for the construction of the new mill. Following that he continued to work in the field of construction in various communities. When he retired, he became the community handy man until the age of 78. Vernon now had time to garden, he loved growing large bountiful gardens that were prestigiously manicured. His carpenter skills came in handy, having every row measured and straight. Vernon also enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching curling on T.V. or at the local rink. He was also a regular on coffee row at the local restaurant where he enjoyed sharing a story and a good laugh.  Vernon loved animals, especially cats and would always have a few, close beside him. If there happened to be a little kitten that needed extra care, Vernon always made room for one more.  He was a descriptive animated story teller, all children would request and wait to hear his stories, especially the “bear” stories. He had a great love for children starting with his own grandchildren and his special little neighbour friend, Jonathon, whom he always made time for.  Vernon’s zest for life and giving personality will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 42 years Cecelia Paul of Lanigan; four children, eight grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren: Billy (Valerie) and family Shayleen and Joel; Diego (Maureen) and family Cole and Josh; Tammy (Thane) and family David, Ciara and her daughter Autumn; and Terry (Scott) and family Anessa, Colby and his child Carson, all of Medicine Hat, AB; sisters-in-law Gertie of Saskatoon, Margaret (Delbert) of Lanigan and Christine of Nokomis. Vernon was predeceased by his parents Ruben and Lydia Bergeson and by nine siblings.   As per Vernon’s wish there will be a private family graveside service at a later date. Memorial donations in Vernon’s memory may be directed to Humboldt & District SPCA.
