Violet Helen (nee Wildeman) Fick

The death of Mrs. Violet Helen (nee Wildeman) Fick 93 years of Lanigan, SK occurred on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Lanigan Hospital.  Violet was born May 27, 1924 in the Esk District to Robert and Olga (nee Braitenback) Wildeman.  At the age of 10 they moved to a farm 3 ½ miles east from Lanigan. She attended Pauline and Stoner Rest School until grade five. Being the second oldest child of seven surviving, Violet had to quit school after grade five to help out at home with domestic duties. On June 27, 1944 Violet married Albert Fick, a neighbour. Following their marriage they moved to Violet’s homestead and began their farming career. This union was blessed with two sons, Doug and Harvey. Violet liked tending to her vegetable gardens and making preserves. Along with her domestic duties she also worked side by side with Albert on the farm; baling hay, milking cows and any other farming chores that needed to be done. Violet was a wonderful cook but her specialty was in baked goods. In 1976 Violet and Albert moved to Lanigan and Doug took over the farm. When they moved to town Violet became very active in her church, helping with teas, funeral lunches and became part of the quilting club. Violet and Albert traveled to BC, Manitoba and Iowa      to visit family. She continued to garden which now included beautiful red roses.  After Albert passed away in 1999, Violet kept busy baking, gardening, doing jigsaw puzzles and often had friends over to visit. She also loved to spend time with her family. Violet continued to live independently until present. She willingly gave up her driver’s licence in June 2017. Violet will be lovingly remember and sadly missed by her two sons and three grandchildren:  Douglas (Marie) Fick of Lanigan and children Chantel (Matt) Hendry of Dundurn and Sherilyn Fick of Saskatoon; Harvey Fick (Wendy Strachan) and son James (Miranda) Fick all of Regina; sister Lil (Ken) Wachs of Saskatoon; sisters-in-law: Ruth Wildeman of Lanigan and Marjorie Wildeman of Saskatoon; brother-in-law Don Elliott of Saskatoon; numerous nieces, nephews and members of the Fick family. Violet was predeceased by her husband Albert Fick; parents Robert and Olga Wildeman; brothers and sisters: Rose (in infancy), Alfred Wildeman, Dan Wildeman, George (Pearl) Wildeman, Evelyn (Cliff) Wright and Velma Elliott. A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lanigan. Officiated by, Pastor George Hind. Interment followed at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial donations in Violets memory may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church Fund.
