Albert Hoffman

September 29, 1927 ~ April 2, 2023 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Albert was born on September 29, 1927 at Loyalist, AB, to Alex and Rosa Hoffman, who then moved to Spalding/Daphne district in October 1927. He grew up on his parents’ mixed farm, breaking land, picking roots and stones, tending to the livestock, and making hay… just to name a few chores. There was always time for fun though, like when he and his youngest sister, Ella, set sail across a slough in a cattle trough, only to have their great vessel sink halfway across! Luckily, both survived!

Albert walked 1.5 miles to attend Clearview School until Grade 9. He took Grade 10 by correspondence, then quit to help on his dad’s farm. He left the farm in his later teens to obtain a welder certificate, worked at various jobs over the next couple of years, but eventually settled into full-time farming on the original home quarter.

Shy Albert met lovely Nita Kaminskas while she worked as a waitress at the café in Spalding. He became a ‘regular’, ordering his favourite vanilla milkshake every time Nita was working, until they married on October 29, 1957, ad moved to Albert’s farm northeast of Daphne.

Albert and Nita became a smooth-working team. Their hard work ethics, tireless endurance, and innovative thinking (like building their own grain dryer) pushed them through tough times. They purchased cows, pigs, and chickens, as well as grain farmed. Over the years, they were blessed with 3 daughters: Wendy, Dianne, and Karen.

Albert loved fishing and took many trips up north to various lakes with friends and family. He also spent many hours fishing at Kip (until he sold the cabin there), then at Barrier, where he purchased his next cabin. He was king of Crokinole, even with one bad eye and a crooked shooting finger! He enjoyed curling, horse shoes, playing cards, and get-togethers with family and friends.

Albert was a member of the Spalding Curling Club, as well as the treasurer for the Lutheran Church, curling club, bowling alley, Clearview Cemetery, and Spalding Seniors. He was always willing to lend a helping hand by building Quonsets, helping neighbours during harvest, and giving back to the community wherever he could.

Albert will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife of 65 years, NITA; and his 3 daughters, Wendy (Ken) of Watson, Dianne (Ryan) of Melfort, and Karen (Paul) of Vanscoy; his 4 grandchildren Jonathan (Christie) of Quill Lake, Michelle (Phil) of Saskatoon, Amanda (Cole) of Saskatoon, and April (Owen) of Saskatoon; his 5 great-grandchildren, sister Ella Braitenbach, sister-in-law Jean Hoffman; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Alex and Rosa Hoffman, brother Benny, sister Edna and her husband Ken, brother-in-law Irvine, and son-in-law Clint.
