Obituary

Bert Thiemann passed away February 20, 2022, shortly after his 87th birthday.  He was surrounded by family from his first to his last day. He was born into a large family of eleven children to Paul and Clara (Ecker) Thiemann in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. He lived a life filled with love and community.

He was a respected, strong-willed man and a true Jack-of-all-trades. Bert was an excellent grain, cattle and dairy farmer, a skilled swatherman, mechanic, butcher, hunter, hockey player, coach, golfer and bowler. He was a founding member in the Humboldt Area Vintage and Antique Club Inc. since 1995 and active in the Knights of Columbus at St. Augustine’s Parish, where many enjoyed his special pancakes. For much of his life, Bert worked on his generational farm with his sons and neighbours to provide for his family. He never missed an opportunity to head out to the shop or field. Above all the things he did, Bert was a caring and devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. Many knew Bert as a man of nine lives, these experiences only showed his strong character and made for some of the great stories he shared.

He and his beautiful wife Sylvia (Timmermann), who were married on October 3, 1959, welcomed anyone into their home on the farm and always were ready to lend a helping hand. Bert and Sylvia raised five children, having many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bert is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Sylvia and their five children - Murray and Lorraine: Emma (Johnny) Senglow, Nicole, Sara (Nelson) Frank; Darrell and Lori: Ryan, Danielle (Rob) Hembroff; and children Daisy, Archie; Clifford and Tracy: Jenelle (David) and son Finn Carroll, Dillon (Morgan), Maddison, Dillon, and Jordan Sielski; Brenda and Donnie Ingham: Allison, Bradley; Lori and Dean Dagenais: Dana, Daymon; along with his sister Joan (Ron) Schreiner, brothers/sisters-in-law Clarence Knaus, Joan Timmerman, Patricia Timmerman, Jack (Judy) Timmermann, Linda (Larry) Angeli, Edna Fraser, Pat Szautner, Judy (Ken) Thiemann; and many nieces and nephews.

Bert was predeceased by his parents Paul and Clara Thiemann and siblings/in-laws:  Rose (Tony) Zimmerman, Ben (Mona) Thiemann, Anne (Frank) Kraft, Joseph Thiemann, Mary (Tony) Ell, Ag (Herb) Hilgers, Edward (Nora) Thiemann, Betty (Gilbert) Kuemper, Margorie Knaus and Bella Thiemann;  mother and father-in-law John and Mary Timmermann, Leo, Alfred, Ed, Ron Timmermann, Rita (Vern) Work, Harold Fraser, and Russell Szautner.

Bert will always be remembered for his sense of humour and the happiness he brought to everyone’s life. He will be truly missed and loved forever.

A special thanks to the Healthcare workers for providing care during these difficult times.

A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, celebrated by Fr. John Ezeoruonye.  Interment followed at the St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery Columbarium. Memorial donations in Bert’s memory may be directed to the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation or Heart & Stroke Foundation.
