Alice Mary Dery (nee Leroi) of Humboldt, SK, passed away on February 24, 2024 at the age of 91.
Alice was born on December 6, 1932, to parents Gustave and Maria Leroi (nee Florizone) in Nut Lake, SK. After finishing her schooling at Nut Lake, Alice taught at a one room school in Nobleville, SK. She was proud of this role and often spoke of her students fondly.
Alice met the love of her life, Marcel Dery, at a dance in Perigord, SK. Alice and Marcel married in 1955 and went on to have 13 children; Allan, Daniel, Janet, Madeline, Suzanne, Michael, Francis, Stephen, Jacqueline, Rita, Joanne, Juliette, and Estelle.
Alice and Marcel retired from farming in 2000 and after the death of Marcel in 2002, Alice moved to Shellbrook, SK, where she oversaw the building of her new home. Alice enjoyed playing piano, reading, gardening, sewing and crocheting.
In 2018, Alice moved to the Assisted Living Luther Care Home in Saskatoon and then moved to the Assisted Living Caleb Care Home in Humboldt in 2023 where she spent her last months enjoying her apartment.
More than anything Alice enjoyed visits from her family and watching her family of 12 grow into a legacy of over 80 descendants. She was extremely proud of all of her children and grandchildren, and looked forward to family events such as weddings, birthdays and baby showers, which there were many.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Marcel, parents Gustave and Maria Leroi, brother Victor Leroi, sister Martha Ene, brother Albert Leroi, sister Yvonne MacDonald, brother Maurice Leroi, and son Daniel Dery.
Alice is survived by her sister Peggy Halvorson, her 12 children, their spouses, 38 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. from Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, Rose Valley, SK, celebrated by Fr. John Ezeoruonye.
