Alice passed away peacefully, in the Golden Acres Long Term Care Facility in Wynyard, SK, on the morning of September 12, 2020, at the age of 94.
Alice was born in the Elfros district, where she was raised on the family farm. While her brothers were in the services, Alice stayed home to help on the farm. She loved horses, as was proud of the fact that she had her own team on the Threshing Crew. She married George Fewster, and they moved to Wynyard, where they raised their three boys. Alice worked at Crawford Foods for a number of years. She also worked at Cameron and Pope Hardware, and Cameron’s Ladies Wear. When the CPR built their Bunkhouse in Wynyard, Alice and George had the contract to maintain it, and made it a home away from home for the CPR crews. After her retirement, she could be found at Georgina’s Greenhouse, helping her in the Spring of the year.
Alice loved her cabin at Fishing Lake. She spent a number of years on the board at Leslie Beach.
She was also a member of the Recreation Board in Wynyard for a number of years and was a very enthusiastic member of the Citizens on Patrol.
Alice was an avid sports fan. She played ball in her younger years, and even laced on the skates for some hockey games. Alice put on many miles following her boys in their chosen sports, and was quick to volunteer for any fundraisers they had. Up until a few years ago, she never missed a Monarch’s Hockey game.
When she thought she was old enough, she joined the Drop-In Centre in Wynyard. She enjoyed driving the ”Old People” around, although she was older than some of them. When asked how she was, she would often reply “Not Bad for an Old Fart.”
Alice was predeceased by her husband George, in 1995; her brothers: Bert, Jack, Harold and Don, and her sisters: Irene, Anne and Edith. She is survived by her sister Mae Duchin of Acton, Ontario; her sons: GARY (Sylvia Ring) of Wynyard, and his sons Ryan and Trevor (Candace); LEONARD and his children, Sean (Janelle), Meghan (Logan) and son Nicholas; Shari Uhersky, her daughter Emily and her daughter Damara; Shannon (Jerry) Third and children Dylan, Tyler and Jessica; and JACK (Joanne) and their children Leanne (Ken) Kerik, and daughters Madison and McKenna and Mark (Clare) and sons Cameron and Neven.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff at Golden Acres Long Term Care in Wynyard.
If friends so desire, Mom would appreciate donations to the Wynyard Hospital Auxiliary, in lieu of flowers. A Memorial Service was held at Ukrainian Hall in Wynyard, SK, on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.
