On Friday, October 25, 2024, Allan George Baker passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Watrous Hospital.
He is predeceased by his son Jeffery Baker, his parents Helen Shuh and Merrill Baker, his father-in-law Henry VanDrunen, his niece Katy VanDrunen and his beloved farm cat Matumbo.
Allan is survived by his wife Teresa (VanDrunen) Baker, sons Trevor and Henry Baker, daughter Nicole (Baker) Kerney, son-in-law Anthony Kerney, his sister Irene (Baker) Novlan, his brother-in-law Lavern Novlan, mother-in-law Lillian VanDrunen, brother’s-in-law Tim VanDrunen and Fred VanDrunen, sisters-in-law Margaret VanDrunen, Elizabeth VanDrunen, nieces Amy VanDrunen and Amber Martin, nephews Timmy VanDrunen, Jeremy Martin and Chris Labelle; along with many dear family members and friends, as well as his “second family” at the Local Millwright Hall 1021, Saskatoon.
Al lived his life in the surrounding area of Guernsey, he was born in 1950 in Humboldt and grew up on his parents farm at the junction of highway 16 and highway 20. Al met the love of his life Teresa, in June of 1981, two weeks late they started living together, and were married in their living room at their house in Watrous on November 13th , 1982. Al joined the Millwright Union in 1992 after working various jobs before hand. Al made a career in the local 1021, but also a second family, he would take new apprentice’s under his wing, often asking the “What do you know?”, in order to guide them. Allan’s children also went into the trades, Trevor and Jefferey as millwrights, Henry in the labour’s hall, and Nicole a hairstylist, all children got their Red-Seal Journey-person’s which was a proud moment for Al.
Life with Al was always full of laughter, love and fun, he had friend’s everywhere he went and often would take extra long on errands from all the people he would run into, and consequently end up delaying himself, due to his chatty nature. He loved his family and friends’ enjoyed tinkering around his garage with his many projects and taming his beloved farm kittens, he loved to sit down with a cup of coffee, a smoke and talk until the cows came home about everything and anything.
With Al, what you saw is what you got, he was kind, authentic and loved freely for anyone who came into his life, with many friends becoming family, he had many more people out there who called him “Dad” than just his children, and his heart was big enough for everyone. Al always had time for people and a kind word for them, pay that love and kindness forward to everyone you meet.
