It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Anton “Tony” Kiefer, 96 years, at Humboldt District Hospital on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Tony was born on September 10, 1929, in the St. Gregor District to Karl and Katherine (nee Muyres) Kiefer, the fifth child in the family of seven. He obtained all his education in St. Gregor and was fortunate to obtain a grade 10 education. Tony then began working in lumber camps in BC where he began his love for carpentry.
Tony found the love of his life 6 km away; Theresa Nienaber. Every Sunday he would ride his pedal bike from St. Gregor to Annaheim to go and see Theresa. They were wed on September 7, 1954, at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Annaheim. They began their life together by purchasing some land south of St. Gregor where they built a new home and began a mixed farm. They were blessed with five children. Everyone helped on the farm with all types of chores including picking rocks which seemed to be the most common activity. Tony’s love for carpentry continued - he loved woodworking. Every piece he created was done meticulously to perfection.
In 1968, Tony and Theresa decided to move their family and home to Annaheim. Tony then began employment with the RM of St. Peter’s, then later became a labourer at Doepker’s Industries, a career he had for 25 years.
In 2007, Tony and Theresa retired to Humboldt. They were very blessed to have great neighbours which included long visits and many laughs.
Tony was able to continue to create beautiful items made from wood in his workshop. He also enjoyed rug hooking and made sure every family member had at least one rug in remembrance of him.
For relaxation Tony enjoyed setting puzzles together which included having a well stocked supply of treats by his side, that he would also share with everyone. They were fortunate to have many memorable trips to Germany, Alaska, the east coast, and many yearly trips to the USA to visit family.
Tony had an abundance of love for Theresa, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren which was very genuine. He was excited to have a great-great granddaughter born two months ago. He was very proud of the new title “Great-great grandpa.” The legacy continues!
Tony will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 71 years:
