Betty Sawicki Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden and unexpected death of their dear Mother and Grandmother Betty Anne Sawicki, 71 years of Bruno at her residence on Monday, May 4, 2020.  Betty was born on September 5, 1948 to Nathan and Mary (nee Kramer) Merrifield in Watrous.  She obtained all her education in Watrous.  Betty met the love of her life Raymond Sawicki through friends.  It was not long, and they were wed in Bruno on August 31, 1974.  They were blessed with two children Carrie and Mark.  Betty was true homemaker at heart her role as a domestic engineer shone brightly providing the family with a wonderful loving home filled with delicious meals especially her bread and buns.  Ray’s role was to plant the garden and maintain it while Betty oversaw the preserving and later creating the wonderful meals. Nothing brought her more enjoyment then when her grandchildren arrived, she was very honored to be able to provide childcare for them so Carrie could work.  Her grandchildren were her love and life she was incredibly happy to spend every day with them.  The children loved their gramma and share many, many fond memories of her.  Betty’s life changed when Ray died suddenly in 2001. She was so grateful to have her children and grandchildren living close to her so she could see them daily. When Betty was not with her family, she enjoyed walks around town and visiting people along the way. Frequent visits with her group of coffee friends will be greatly missed. One of her other hobbies were to watch television; she loved a variety of shows and that kept her in tune with the world. Capri would accompany her grandma every Wednesday night for a fun night of bingo at Prairie View. Her faithful companion “Kitty” who continuously was at her side brought her much love.  Betty will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her two children and three grandchildren: Carrie (Dave) Ebner and children Capri, Cole and Carson; and Mark Sawicki, all of Bruno; brothers: Gordon (Josie) Merrifield of Surrey, BC and Gerald Merrifield of Watrous; sisters and brothers-in-law: Elsie (Jack) Macleod of Saskatoon, Anne (Eddy) Kocay of Prud'homme, Frances (Terry) Torgerson of Elfros, Johnny Sawicki of Bruno and Linda  (Monte) Kovlaske of Humboldt; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her parents Nathan and Mary Merrifield; parents-in-law John and Olga (nee Montelga) Sawicki; brother Brian Merrifield; and brother-in-law Joe Sawicki.  Memorial donations in Betty’s memory may be directed to Humboldt District  Hospital Foundation General Equipment Fund.  A Private Family Interment was held at St. Bruno R.C. Cemetery in Bruno, SK.
