Brent Curtis Helgert

The sudden and accidental death of Brent Curtis Helgert, 60 years, of Bruno occurred on Saturday, February 8, 2025. Brent was born on August 12, 1964 in Humboldt, the second son of Alois and Marjorie (nee Winter) Helgert.  He grew up on the family farm north of Bruno, attending school in Bruno and helping on the farm, where he developed a love of trucking after driving the grain truck.  After high school, he moved to Saskatoon where he worked at various jobs for a number of years.  During this time, he married Tammy Weiman in October 1989 and they were blessed with four children.  Brent’s passion for trucking led him to obtain his Class 1A license when he was 30.  He had a varied and interesting career in the trucking industry, hauling for many companies, both short and long hauls, as well as owning and operating his own truck for a time.  In August 2022, he moved back to his hometown of Bruno and shortly after reconnected with Tammy Berscheid, whom he had known and dated when they were teens.  The two quickly became a couple and were busy planning their wedding.  They recently purchased his parent’s home in Bruno and were working at making it their own.  On April 1, 2024, Brent began working for the Town of Bruno and was enjoying not being out on the road as much, while still missing his trucking days.  To Brent, family was everything.  He talked to his mom Marj every day, loved playing and being silly with his grandchildren and just enjoyed family time together.  He had a zest for life, a ready smile, big laugh and a story to tell.  Brent always thought of others before himself and gave 100% of himself to everything he did.       

Brent will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his fiancé Tammy Berscheid of Bruno; his four children and four grandchildren: Kyle (Karissa) Helgert of Waldheim and children Shyanna, Wyatt and Oliver; Chad Helgert of Bruno and daughter Jamielynn; Troy Helgert (fiancé Cassey Sarauer) of Saskatoon; Shaunna Helgert (Shawn Wollman) of Martensville; his parents Alois and Marjorie Helgert of Saskatoon; brother Morris Helgert of Saskatoon and his family Laura (Michael) and her son Kade, Sarah (Cory) and their daughter Willow, and Amanda (Trevor) and their daughter Isabella; and Tammy’s children and grandchildren: Steven (Tierney) and children Karter, Nicolas, Gabriel, Link and Finn; John (Willow) and children Matilda, Ivan, Bartholomew and Leo; Adam (Aubrey); and godmother Kathryn Kramer. He was predeceased by his godfather/uncle Kenny Kramer and uncle Leon Helgert.        

The Funeral Mass for Brent was held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, Bruno, celebrated by Fr. Pius Schroh.  Memorial donations in Brent’s memory may be made to Bruno Friendship Centre.
