Del Lummerding Obituary

Del's Funeral mass was livestreamed via Saint Philip Neri Parish's website at www.stphilipneriparish.ca and will remain on there.

It is with love and respect that we announce the peaceful passing of Del T. Lummerding, P. Eng., at 85 years old on December 9th, 2025, in Saskatoon, SK., surrounded by family. Born December 31st, 1939, in Bruno, SK., to Theodore and Agnes (née Backman), he grew up on a farm and attended St. Quentin (they called it going to St. Quentin School, after the famous prison, as a matter of humor). He always said he would finish his U of S civil engineering education before Darren, his first child, started school, and he achieved this by 2 months.

As a surveyor, engineer, and recognized member of the original leadership team for ASL Paving from 1968-1984, Del lent his gifts for precision and attention to detail to the construction of Saskatoon infrastructure both big and small, from the Idylwyld Bridge to paving much of the City and Province at some point over the years.

Del was equally dedicated to his community work through the Knights of Columbus, the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 362, the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, as a bell-ringer for the Salvation Army, as a parishioner at Saint Philip Neri, and many more roles over his lifetime. He will be remembered for his profound generosity of time, effort, wisdom, integrity, and many talents, for the benefit of others and our shared world.

He was both a passionate reader of history, especially of Saskatchewan—the “flatlands” as he affectionately called them—and a researcher and writer of his and his wife’s genealogies, which took him on research trips to Germany, the US, Great Britain, and throughout Canada. From the plains to the mountains, he had it all.

As a devoted and beloved family member, Del could be counted on to bring people together, always inviting others to join him for church pancake breakfasts, family reunions, afternoon pie, and to listen to stories and look at photos from his many travels; his active mind enjoyed crosswords, puzzles, and playing cards.

Del is predeceased by his parents, Theodore & Agnes; siblings Bernice, Jerome, and Eric and many dear family and friends.  He is survived by and missed greatly by Donna, his wife of 61 years; 2 children: Diana (Kevin) Moore, Darren Lummerding; 2 grandchildren: Kristina (Yutaka) Lummerding-Driedger, James (Kendra) Lummerding-Driedger, their mother Karalei Driedger-Pilon; siblings: Marcella Sarauer, Clara Larrivee, Maxine Keen, Norbert Lummerding, and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A Service of Remembrance was held at Saint Philip Neri Parish (1902 Munroe Ave S, Saskatoon SK, S7J 1R8) at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 17th, 2025. Interment will be a private family event at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army.
