Donald McDougall Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Lorne McDougall of Humboldt, Saskatchewan. Donald (known affectionately by friends and family by his second name Lorne) passed away peacefully at the Humboldt District Hospital after a brief but fierce bout with multiple cancers on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 75 years old. Lorne was born on June 26,1950 to Lorne and Elizabeth McDougall of Briarlea, Saskatchewan. Lorne was raised on the family farm at Briarlea and attended Wild Rose School and Prince Albert Composite School. After completing his education, Lorne served one tour of duty with the Canadian Navy, stationed out of Esquimalt, British Columbia. Having completed his service, he returned to Prince Albert and married his high school sweetheart Linda (Viklund) in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan on December 5, 1970. Lorne and Linda welcomed daughter Stacy in 1971 and son Allan in 1987.

Lorne’s career spanned several industries, starting work at Burns Foods in Prince Albert, then working for several companies installing and servicing overhead doors in Prince Albert, Saskatoon and Sherwood Park, Alberta working his way up through the companies ultimately attaining the role as a branch manager. Lorne returned to Briarlea in 1995 to farm with his uncle Allan Beaton until 2008. Lorne then worked building houses in the Prince Albert area until his first retirement. Lorne came out of retirement for several years to work at Peavy Mart in Prince Albert until he retired to acreage life, eventually moving to Humboldt in 2024 to be closer to his children. Throughout his life, Lorne enjoyed many sports including golf, hockey, slow-pitch and his favorite: fast ball, which he played in Prince Albert with the A&W Lads in the 1970’s (although this may have been mainly due to the sponsor’s after-game supply of the famous Animal Burgers). When he was farming at Briarlea, Lorne served some time as President of the Shellbrook Saskatchewan Curling Club and also was a member of the Shellbrook Elks club.

Lorne is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda McDougall, daughter Stacy (Erin) Herman and grandsons Jacob Herman, Cameron (Rachel) Herman and Karl Herman, son Allan (Jen Moore) McDougall, and siblings: Linda (Wayne) Soles, Wendy (Wally) Bunt, Judy Friske (Chris Fluter), Colleen (Chris) Hudon, Marlene (Felix) Casavant, Maureen (Rick) Torgunrud, Wilf (Karen) McDougall, Muriel (Bob) Meek, Lester (Tracy) McDougall and many nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces. Lorne is predeceased by his parents Lorne and Betty McDougall and Uncle Allan Beaton.

Lorne was a person that loved people, telling stories or jokes and could always be found wherever the laughter was loudest. Everyone around him soon experienced his teasing (mostly good-natured) and he could take it as well as he dished it out. He enjoyed anything with a social connection and wasn’t shy to spend time in his later years cruising the neighborhood to keep up with all the neighbors and check on all his family. He will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, October 18th, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at the Shellbrook Community Hall, in Shellbrook, SK, for all who knew Donald (Lorne) and to spend time with family and friends. The family extends a well deserved thank you to the excellent staff at the Humboldt District Health Complex for their professionalism and compassionate service.  Memorial donations can be directed to the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation Inc. at  https://www.hdhfoundation.ca/. In lieu of cards or flowers, take a friend out for coffee or lunch.  In Lorne’s words, “Enjoy your life”.
