The death of Donna Wachniak, 64 years, of Watson, occurred on April 30, 2024 at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon.
Donna Wachniak grew up in Gronlid, SK. She and her family moved to Watson, SK, when Donna was in Grade 7. Her classmates said she was a reserved, happy girl, as well as bright and kind. Donna went away to achieve a post secondary education, however those plans changed when her dad passed away. Donna came home to help her mom, Anne, run the family business, Watson Auction Mart. She loved being an auctioneer and spoke fondly of many and not so fondly of few. Donna enjoyed crocheting, making dreamcatchers, doing diamond art and making cards for the activity department at QPCL and was very talented at it.
In February of 2013, Donna moved into Quill Plains Centennial Lodge due to failing health. As her health started to improve, Donna spoke of moving out. When Donna’s mom moved into QPCL she chose to stay and be close to her mom. Donna was very dedicated to Anne, and they played cards every evening. When Anne didn’t want to eat, Donna would buy her favourite foods for her. Not only was Donna dedicated to her mom and her care, but she was also dedicated to the QPCL facility. Donna was the voice residents heard when playing BINGO; and she was an extra set of ears and hands whenever the workers in the facility needed anything.
Donna moved out of QPCL in October of 2023. She enjoyed the last few months of her life in her own home. She stayed busy with cooking and crafting. Donna even planned to take up gardening this spring. Donna was a private person who didn’t let many people in but those she did will miss her dearly.
The Funeral Service for Donna was held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home & Crematorium, Humboldt, officiated by Rev. Fr. Yurii Obukh and cantor Michael Brischuk. Interment followed in the St. Michael’s Orthodox Cemetery, Watson. Donations may be directed to the Quill Plains Healthcare Foundation: Activity Fund.
