Doreen Mamer Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Doreen Pauline Mamer (nee Strueby), 86 years of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, announce her passing on Thursday, December 19, 2019.

Doreen was born November 12, 1933 to Fred and Theresa Strueby in Marysburg, SK. She obtained all her education in Marysburg. After schooling, she worked in the area doing domestic duties for families. From a young age, Doreen loved horses, the outdoors, and being in the barn with the horses. She also enjoyed competitive sports such as curling and fast ball, even into her adult years. Then on October 29, 1952, Doreen married Ken Mamer and they spent their first winter together on the farm. In 1953, they moved into Lake Lenore and Doreen took over the switchboard duties from Ken’s mother. In 1961, they built a new home in Lake Lenore and Ken left his job with the Telephone repair, focusing all his time on his manager position with Co-op. Doreen worked along side Ken in the accounting department.  During this time, she loved her beautiful backyard with the many gardens and flowers along her fur baby companion, Buffy. In 1988, they purchased a 5th wheel RV trailer and for the next 12 years spent three months each winter in the southern USA. Then in July 2000, Ken and Doreen moved to Humboldt where they built a new home. With deteriorating health, Doreen moved to St. Mary’s Villa in 2011 and Ken moved to Caleb Village until his passing on September 8, 2013.  She was the favourite auntie to all of her nieces and nephews.  Doreen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her siblings: Arnold (Millie) Strueby of Manitou Beach, Art (Mary) Strueby of North Battleford, Rose Rabner of Humboldt, Lucille (Louie) Cecillion of Windsor, ON, Eileen (Norbert) Braun of Saskatoon, Grace (Dave) Braun of Windsor, ON, and Rick Strueby of Watrous; sisters-and-brothesr-in-law Alvin (Mary Ann) Mamer of Melfort and Lucille (Ed) Eberle of Humboldt; and numerous nieces and nephews.    Doreen was predeceased by her husband Ken; parents Fred and Theresa Strueby; siblings Walter (Edna) Strueby, Eunice (Dan) Wourms, Lorne (Joan) Strueby, brother-in-law Gilbert Rabner; nephews Garry Wourms and Trevor Strueby; parents-in-law Alois and Cecilia Mamer; brother-and-sisters-in-law Norbert (Elaine) Mamer, and Jeanette Mamer.

A Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Augustine R.C. Church in Humboldt, SK. Interment followed in St. Anthony’s R.C. Cemetery in Lake Lenore, SK.
