Elaine Kral Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Elaine Kral (nee Nickel) on June 15, 2021 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Elaine was born to Edmund and Bertha (nee Bartle) Nickel on October 16, 1945 in Lanigan. She was raised and educated in Lanigan.

When Elaine was 16 she met the love of her life John Kral, they began their partnership not long after. John and Elaine married on August 15, 1966 and began their life together on the farm near Jansen. Their family was blessed with three children. John and Elaine were true partners on the farm. She was not afraid of hard work. She was also not afraid to put the kids to work either, picking rocks, or planting the garden. Elaine still knew how to have fun though, even while working hard. She loved to sing songs with the kids while working; helping the time pass more quickly. Elaine was also a great cook, a few family favorites were her perogies, creamy cucumbers, dill pickles, and for Christmas it was crepes.

Elaine loved being outside, watching birds, gardening, and having wiener roasts with her family. Elaine also enjoyed sewing, crafting and painting. She made furniture with John, he would build and she would stain or paint it. Most of all though, Elaine loved to spend time with her family; whether that was her valued friends she considered her family, or her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed being silly with the great grandkids and often played auction mart with Kyra, talking like the animals.  Even when she was slowing down Elaine always kept going and would always put others before herself.

The deep love Elaine had for others and her friendly, caring demeanour never went unnoticed and will be forever remembered by those close to her. Elaine will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years JOHN Kral, two daughters, 3 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren:

Sharleen Dunne (Maurice Carroll) and her children; Taylor (Lisa) Dunne; and Jaylan Dunne (Jeremy Umpherville) and their family Tara Tilley, Kyra Dunne, and Paisley Umpherville;

Sandra Ecker (Roger Backes) and her daughter Ashley Ecker (Keenan Sheperd-Nokahoot);

She is also survived by her siblings George (Marge) Nickel, Don Nickel, and Lil (Clare) Hegg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elaine was predeceased by her parents Edmund and Bertha Nickel; son Darcy Kral;  great granddaughter Brynlee Dunne; and sister Ida Nickel.

A Graveside Service was held on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the Jansen Public Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.  Memorial donations in Elaine’s memory may be directed to Empty Arms.
