Elsie Hanowski Obituary

Elsie Hanowski was born on December 4, 1923 to Philip and Christina (nee Koch) Blaus. She completed high school in Killaly, SK and attended business college in Victoria, BC.

Elsie married Jack Hanowski on November 19, 1945.  They lived in Victoria for two years where daughter Karen was born.  They moved back to Saskatchewan where her husband Jack completed his education.  They then settled in Killaly and stayed there for 10 years where son Sherman was born.  Elsie was a stay-at-home mom until the children were grown.  She was active in the church and various other organizations.  They moved to Melville in 1960 where Jack was principal of St. Henry’s School and then the Comprehensive High School.  Elsie was involved there with the C.W.L., volunteered to work at the church office and served as vice president for the Red Cross for two years.  She taught sewing to the grade nine class for a couple of years and did secretarial work at the school offices of St. Henry’s School and the Comprehensive High School.  She also enjoyed curling and golf.  Elsie and Jack retired to Humboldt in 1986 and from there they did a lot of travelling.  They lived in that community until their passing.

She was predeceased by husband Jack; parents Philip and Christina Blaus; brothers: Frank (Edie) Blaus and Bill (Mae) Blaus; sisters: Rose (Henry) Wendel, Marie (John) Hameluck, Applon (Bill) Mountford, Susan (Adam) Hanowski, Freda (Jack) Ashley and brother-in-law Fred Exner.

Elsie leaves to mourn her death: two children: Karen (Warren) Huber and Sherman (Beverley) Hanowski; five grandchildren: Kendra (Vaughan) Wallace, Daria (Brad) Lauer, Erin (Matt) Baugh, Kevan (Valerie Matte) Hanowski and Derek (Logan Collin) Hanowski; six great grandchildren: Kieran Wallace, Bryn Wallace, Camryn Lauer, Addison Lauer, Xavier Baugh and Logan Baugh; sister Violet (Alfred) Fuchs and numerous nieces and nephews.  A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. from St. Augustine R.C. Church, celebrated by Fr. Colin Roy. Interment followed St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations in Elsie’s memory may be directed to Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan or St. Augustine R.C.
