Evelyn Dunne Obituary

With heavy hearts and spirits shaken, we share the passing of Evelyn Catherine Dunne at the age of 71. On Monday, October 13, 2025, she left us, leaving behind a legacy of love, quiet strength, and deep compassion. Though her time with us has ended, the warmth she brought to our lives will never fade.

Born in LeRoy, Saskatchewan on June 6, 1954, Evelyn grew up with prairie roots and received her education in Sinnett. She became a mother to her son Jason on April 1, 1971. In her early years, she babysat for families, offering care and comfort to many. Later, she moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where she worked for many years as a dietitian at the Edmonton General Hospital, touching lives with her dedication and kindness. In 1973, she met Henry Middelhoek, they married on December 30, 1983. After their separation, she settled in Lintlaw, Saskatchewan, where she worked at the local hotel and continued to share her warmth with the community. She also worked at the MacKenzie Center in Preeceville, Saskatchewan, where she handled the bookkeeping, bringing her quiet dedication and care to every detail. In the fall of 1990, she met William Gwilliam (Bill), and the two began a life together in October 1991 that spanned over two decades. During their time together, she proudly completed her training as a Continuing Care Assistant and Home Care Aide, a testament to her dedication and compassion. She went on to serve nearly 15 years with Home Care in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, where her gentle spirit and tireless work touched the lives of many. Later, she purchased a home in Kelvington, where she shared her home with her beloved dog, Mighty Mutt. Mighty brought her endless joy and companionship. Their bond was deep and unwavering, and she cherished her dearly.

She will be remembered for her unwavering thoughtfulness - never missing a birthday, always sending a card, a text, or a call to make someone feel special. Her messages, often sprinkled with emojis and heartfelt words, were like little bursts of sunshine that made people feel seen, loved, and remembered. Her camera was never far from reach, ready to capture the moments that mattered most. She lovingly made copies of those photos and passed them on to her loved ones, preserving memories with care. One of her greatest joys was the yearly family gatherings at the farm in Sinnett, where laughter, stories, and togetherness filled her heart. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the memories she helped create.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Mary Dunne; her brothers Conrad, Joseph, and Lorne; her sister Patricia; and her brother-in-law, David Swyryda. She leaves behind her loving son, Jason Dunne, and her grieving siblings: Annette Swyryda, Billy (Joanne) Dunne, Trudy (Jerry) Meng, Rose (Bryan) Arneson, Randy Dunne, Ruben Dunne, Linda (Les) Schutte, and brother-in-law Mike Skibinsky.  She leaves behind a wide circle of loved ones - nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends - each of whom carries a treasured memory, a shared laugh, or a moment of kindness that Evelyn gave so freely. Her spirit lives on in the stories told, the photos passed around, and the love she planted in every heart she touched.
