Florence Siba–Lueke, resident of Bethany Pioneer Village, Aspen Manor, Middle Lake, passed away on October 9, 2023 in the comfort and care of her Bethany family and children.

Florence, the middle child of 12 children, was born on July 28, 1931 to Clemens and Laura (nee Ilg) Kirchner at their home near Pilger, Sask. She spent her school years at Middle Lake country school, Lake Ignace School, and Grove Lake High School, after taking grade 9 and 10 by correspondence. She loved the outdoors, and competing in all sports. Her spirited personality helped her to become one of three graduates in the Class of 1949.

She began dating Mike Siba while in high school, and became secretly engaged to him while in Nursing training at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital. A highlight of her life was her Nursing Graduation day and receiving her RN status.  Florence married Mike on November 18, 1953 and they started their new life together on the Siba homestead, just outside of Middle Lake. They were blessed through the years with six children: Diane, David, Arlene, Margaret, Michele, and Corrine. Michele was called to Heaven in 1967.  Her short life left a legacy for those born with PKU. Florence and Mike were the perfect parents to be lent this little girl for such a precious reason.

Florence spent her nursing career at Bethany Pioneer Village. For many years she was on call 24/7 should she be needed at the Nursing Home. She loved working with seniors, and held Geriatric Nursing in great esteem. As the only RN in the community, she was often called out to a crisis. Throughout these years, she took pride in growing and keeping a beautiful garden, helping with yard upkeep, and working on the farm. Her love of sports included ball, snowmobiling, curling, golfing, and bowling. Her Catholic faith was a deep part of her roots, and she served the church through the CWL, and Eucharist ministry.

Florence lost Mike to cancer in 1989, and retired from her Nursing career shortly thereafter. She became a very competitive bowler, and it was at Humboldt Bowling she met Marcellus Lueke. They married in due course, and enjoyed each others companionship. Marcellus succumbed to cancer in 2005, and Florence moved to the Harry Ford Centre where she continued to enjoy her bowling career, her children, and grandchildren.

Ultimately, Florence’s life lead back to Middle Lake where she lived at Birch, and then Aspen Manor.  She was a great armchair fan of curling, TV game shows, and proudly wore Rider green on game day to cheer them on.

She enjoyed helping Diane in the laundry department, and cherished the visits and phone calls from her family. Florence had a large WiFi frame in her room, that she loved to watch pictures of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren on. She felt like she remained part of their lives, even when she couldn’t be with them.

Florence’s life will be cherished and remembered by her surviving family: four daughters, one son, nine grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren: Diane (Steve) Jenkins; David (Sharon) Siba and family, Shannon (Kurt) Harriman and children Eden and Tanner, Christine (Clyde) Feero, Erin (Justin Coish) Siba Fast; Arlene (Richard) Zens and family, Ryan (Candice) Zens and children Adler and Corbin Zens, Curtis (Nicole) Zens and children Nate and Kyle Zens, Jana (Gustavo Garcia) Zens; Margaret (Michael) Zens and family, Justin (Stacey) Zens, Jeremy (Michele McLean) Zens; Corrine (Tom Sara) Siba and family Mackenzie (Alex Gramatzki) Siba and children Trey and Rosé; Marcellus Lueke’s children and their families; two sisters Doreen Nagy, and Marie Palmer; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Clemens and Laura (nee Ilg) Kirchner; daughter Michele (1967), husbands Mike Siba (1989), and Marcellus Lueke (2005); four brothers: Ludwig, Clarence, Louis and Leonard Kirchner; and 5 sisters: Catherine Griffin, Hilda Svab, Clementine Siba, Rose Baker, Sister Helen Kirchner.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to Bethany Pioneer Village.
