Frances Marjorie Hage (nee Guest), 97 years, of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt and formerly of Tisdale and Archerwill, passed away on November 26, 2023. Frances was born on April 29, 1926 at Wadena, SK to John and Ina (nee Whaley) Guest. She received her education at Sunderland School and then Wadena High School. Frances then moved to Saskatoon to attend Teacher’s College. Her first teaching job was at Duck Creek in the Kelvington District. In 1946, she went to teach at Dahlton School, 10 miles west of Archerwill. While rooming and boarding with the Hage family, she met their son Ernest. Frances and Ernest were married on April 26, 1950. Together they ran a mixed farming operation and raised a family of five children. Frances continued to teach and sub at the local schools for a number of years but her priority was raising her children. She actively supported them in all of their sports and activities. She was very artistic, creating beautiful quilts and blankets for her family, crocheting and knitting and even taking painting classes. Frances loved gardening, growing both a large vegetable garden and beautiful flowers. She had a green thumb and a little greenhouse where she would start her own tomatoes and other bedding plants each spring. Frances was a fantastic baker and her family says she made the best buns and pies. No one left the Hage home hungry, she always had coffee on and treats for family and friends alike when they stopped in. Although not of Norwegian heritage herself, she quickly became proficient at all the traditional dishes that the Hage family enjoyed. She was a member of the Coop Guild, canvassed each year for the Canadian Cancer Society and was an avid community volunteer. She enjoyed curling in her younger years and then watching on TV in her later years. Frances and Ernest had a love of baseball and thoroughly enjoyed their 40th Anniversary trip to Minneapolis to watch their Blue Jays play. They were fortunate to be able to travel together to Norway and Sweden, Hawaii, Las Vegas and on many bus trips to various destinations. She loved little children and was the best grandma and great grandma to her many grandchildren. Frances was kind, sweet, and gentle with a beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humour and her family will truly miss her. She will be lovingly remembered by her five children, ten grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren: BRUCE (Barb) Hage of Archerwill and family Michelle (Mathew) Niekamp and children Leina, Easton and Ellie of Humboldt, TracyHage of Humboldt and Stephanie(Todd) Dyck and children Tessa, Kessler and Dalton of Hudson Bay; BRENDA (Bob) Kidney of Tisdale and family Kyle (Kristie) Kidney and children Brynnlee and Rayna of Tisdale and Kory (Jessica) Kidney and daughter Alayna of Tisdale; DARCY (Cathy) Hage of Naicam; DON (Donna) Hage of Lanigan and daughter Kelsey Hage of Lanigan; and SHELLEY (Roger) Gerwing of Humboldt and family Jordan (Shelby) Gerwing of Martensville and children Cali and Isla, Braden (Paige) Gerwing of Humboldt and children Henley and Cooper, Tanner Gerwing (Presley) of Saskatoon, and Makenna Gerwing (Daylon) of Saskatoon. Frances was predeceased by her parents John and Ina Guest; husband Ernest Hage; granddaughter Kayleen Hage; brother Dennis Guest and sister Jeanette (Ted) Avery. The Funeral Service for Frances was held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Archerwill Centennial Centre, Archerwill, SK, officiated by Pastor Lois Munholland. Interment followed in the Dahlton Lutheran Cemetery, west of Archerwill.
