Frederick Hale Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Frederick Allen Hale, 84 years of Humboldt, on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Humboldt District Hospital.

Fred was born on April 17, 1938 in Plunkett, SK to Arthur and Ethel (nee Williamson) Hale. He obtained all his education at Badger School with Mr. Brock Duke.

Fred’s love for the land and farming was deeply rooted at an early age. He farmed 20 miles south and west of Humboldt with his brother Cyril and Cyril’s wife Louise for many years. They ran a mixed farm where Fred specialized in being a good “rock farmer.”

It was not always all work for Fred, he enjoyed curling and the duties of being the ice maker. He also volunteered with the Wildlife Federation and was an avid Bronco fan.

Fred’s life changed on November 27, 1976, after a short, whirlwind romance. He married Doris Haynal at the Westminster United Church in Humboldt.  Fred became an instant father to Doris’s four children.  He rose to the occasion and became a very positive influence in their lives. Fred adored her children and later their grandchildren. After their marriage Fred moved to Humboldt but continued to farm from town.  Together Fred and Doris did some traveling to destinations in Canada, USA, and Mexico.

Fred retired from farming at the end of harvest time in 2009. In retirement Fred continued with his ice making skills at the Humboldt Curling Club for many years and continued to be a great supporter of the Humboldt Broncos.

In 2015 they moved to a condo at Parkview Place Humboldt where he enjoyed his time as President of their condo board and socializing with all the residents. Fred regularly attended discussion groups. One that met most mornings at McDonalds and one in the afternoon at Wong’s where the retired “Farmers Union” met.

Fred’s quiet manner, welcoming smile will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years Doris Hale of Humboldt; three stepchildren, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren:

Jocelyn Mennie of Tampa, FL, USA, and daughters Sarah Rowe (Steven) of Tampa, FL, USA, and Kathryn Rowe (Byron) of Orlando, FL, USA.
