Garry Boyko Obituary

Garry Donald Kenneth Boyko was born on September 23, 1946 to Michael and Marie (nee Humenny) Boyko. He was raised on a farm near Wimmer, SK and attending school in both Wimmer and Quill Lake.  At an early age, Garry developed a deep sense of family having many aunts, uncles and cousins surrounding him. His father passed at an early age and with his passing came the end of his schooling and his path to farming began very quickly.  He had two children, Mitch (1969) and Heather (1972) who meant the world to him and his devotion to them was unwavering throughout his life. Memories were created through camping trips, ice fishing, Dauphin Ukrainian Festival, and the joy of being on the farm and all that entails. Garry had a passion for the outdoors and wildlife.  He loved spending time outside and just listening to the sound of nature.  He shared his love of nature with his kids at all times including later in life. He was magnificent with his heart and he had no limit of time he would spend with his children. His grandchildren Chanel, Levi and Shay were like prized possessions. He went to the ends of the earth for them and they were always on top of mind when he called. He would want to know every detail about their lives and knew that each grandchild had their own personalities and accepted them for who they were without fail. No judgement, only love. This love was also extended to family, friends & neighbours who knew him. He enjoyed going for coffee and going for drives with others while visiting whether it was looking at crops, spring run-off, or looking for wildlife. The most important thing to him was to be involved with any type of communication with people who he shared his beautiful life with.  He was a member for 45+ years with the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and was proud to be a steward of the animals and the land they inhabited. This passion would lead him on many journeys to Hudson Bay with an abundance of friends to hunt for moose, chickens, and bear.  He was an avid gun collector and reader of wildlife magazines. He also loved watching his John Wayne movies, listening to old time country music and was proud of his Ukrainian heritage.  Garry will be lovingly remembered by his 2 children, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson: MICHAEL (Mitch) Boyko of Watson, SK; and HEATHER (Travis) Brown of Lucky Lake, SK and their children: Chanel and her son Hunter of Nanaimo, BC; Levi of Kamloops, BC; and Shay of Saskatoon, SK; 1 sister, Diane of Geneseo, IL; 2 nephews, Scott (Marianne) Grywacheski and son Shelby of Detroit, MI, and Mark Grywacheski of Chicago, IL. Garry was predeceased by his father Michael Boyko, mother Marie Sondergaard and her second husband Nels Sondergaard.  Garry’s Funeral Service was held on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Church, Watson, officiated by Rev. Brenda Curtis.  Interment followed in St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Watson.  Memorial donations in Garry’s memory may be made to the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation.
