Mr. George Orland Schinkel, 81 years of Humboldt formerly of Jansen, passed away at his residence on Thursday, July 2, 2020. George was born to Adam and Adella (nee Biedler) Schinkel on August 21, 1938, the seventh child of eight. He attended Bieberdorf School. George enjoyed ball as child. Following school, his love for farming was very evident. As a very young man, he worked for local farmers in the spring and fall. He stayed close to his roots and the pull of the land. George farmed with his parents and brother Ernest. After his parents passed away, he continued to farm with Ernest and then later on with his nephew James as well. He was very close to Ernest, Eileen, and James. He had a mixed farm but working with animals was his favourite part. He enjoyed horseback riding and hunting. During the winter months he kept busy with curling in the area. The radio was always on in the house or in the truck. George enjoyed listening to country music and keeping up on the news. In 2000 when the family farm was sold, George retired and moved to Humboldt. He continued to live close to Ernest and his family. He missed his farm greatly and would go for drives, sometimes a few times a week to check the crops, hay fields, and his farmyard. George often had a side kick with him- a dog. He especially enjoyed border collies, who were his faithful companion and friend. George will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his brother Ernest (Eileen) Schinkel; sister-in-law Paulette Loewen of Parksville, BC; nieces and nephews: Marilyn (Garry) Ryan, Rodney (Deb) Koshinsky, Karen (Cal) Massier, Rick (Michelle) Koshinsky, Patricia Wilder, Gail (Alfred) Gurke, Gloria (Bob) Gordon, Elva Scaife, Carla Schinkel (Michael Keller), and James (Erin) Schinkel. George was predeceased by his parents Adam and Adella Schinkel; brothers and sisters: Eleanora Schinkel, Evelyn (Albert) Schondelmeier, Esther (Bob) Koshinsky, Norman Schinkel, Margaret (Mervin) Arnst, Bruno Schinkel and his first wife Verna. A Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 officiated by Pastor Clint Magnus at 2:00 p.m. from Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home. This was a Public Service, following the guidelines put forth by the Govt. of Saskatchewan, with social distancing in the chapel. Interment followed at Jansen Community Cemetery, Jansen.
