Gerald "Gerry" Langenhoff Obituary

Gerald Arnold Langenhoff passed away peacefully on June 22, 2022, at the Light Up Your Life Hospice in Stony Plain, Alberta.

He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Rose Langenhoff, and sister, Adele Lemmerich. Gerry will lovingly be remembered by his daughter Sarah (Graham) Baxter and their children Theodore and Simon; his sisters Bernadette Hermann and Sharon (Dave) Siba; his special friend and sister in faith Cerilia Preisinger and her son Bryan Morastil and daughter Zendell (Alistair) Badival and their children Alyza and Eli; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gerry was born on February 25, 1959.  Gerry was the youngest son of Leonard and Rose Langenhoff. He grew up on a farm outside Fulda, Saskatchewan helping with the family farm. Later in life, Gerry set his sights on furthering his education and received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with distinction from the University of Saskatchewan and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Regina. This brought him to his career as a Social Worker for the Government of Alberta in Child Protective Services for over 20 years. Gerry’s interests included history, genealogy, and photography which lead to the creation of his book, “A World of Bernauer Family Connections: The Descendants of Augustine Bernauer & Maria Ebner” which he complied and edited. He thoroughly appreciated the connections he made with family from around the world while collecting stories and history. Gerry enjoyed travelling, taking road trips home to Saskatchewan or to the mountains. He spent time with his special friend in the Philippines and ventured to Tuktoyaktuk with his Mom and Sister Bernie in a motorhome.  Gerry loved his grandchildren very much, spending time playing, watching movies, and learning about all the new must have toys.

A viewing was held at 5:00-6:00p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. A memorial prayer and reception were held at 10:00a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Westlawn Funeral Home, 16310 Stony Plain Road, in Edmonton, Alberta.

The family is sincerely grateful to the staff at the Cross Cancer Institute, Home Care Services and Westview HealthCare Centre (Light Up Your Life Hospice Society) for their care over the past year.
