Helen Albertson Obituary

Helen Hoffman was born on the family farm southeast of Spalding on July 1, 1928, one of eight children.  She loved life on the farm and was most at home when she was helping her dad with the outdoor work.  She particularly enjoyed harvest time and gathering the produce from the garden.

She attended Sunnyview School where she did well academically and excelled in track and field, winning several awards.  She also loved to play baseball so recess in the spring and the long summer evenings were always enjoyable times.

After school Helen became a nursing assistant and worked in the Spalding and Three Hills hospitals.  She found much joy and satisfaction in taking care of her patients and was often called upon by the doctors for extra assistance.

On December 10, 1960 she married Garfield Albertson and they made their home in Spalding.  She was very active in her local church, being a Sunday School teacher and superintendent for many years and participating in various ministries.  Her creativity was showcased in the beautiful flowers that she made for many weddings, as well as her needlework and special treats at Christmas.  She also loved to sing and had the ability to harmonize, a gift that she was often asked to share with others.  She enjoyed several trips overseas, a highlight being a visit to the Holy Land and Jordan.

Two of her most cherished roles were that of mother and grandmother.  She was a proud hockey mom and spent many winters cheering the home team on and travelling around the province with them.  She also enjoyed attending the sporting events of her grandchildren as often as she was able.

Helen was a loving and caring person who touched many lives.  Her strong faith helped her through difficult times and is one of the most precious gifts passed along to her family.  She went to be with the Lord on October 3, 2020.

She was predeceased by her infant son Lloyd, her husband, parents, three brothers, and three sisters.  She is survived by her daughter Karen, son Lorne (Wendy), three grandchildren (Christian, Rachel, Caleb), sister Lorraine (Ray), 3 sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Helen's family wishes to extend thanks to everyone who assisted in her care over the past few years and particularly the staff at St. Paul's Hospital for their exemplary and compassionate care.
