Hubert James Benson

July 15, 1955 – March 28, 2026

Known as Jim to family, friends and everyone who met him.  He was the 4th child of Ida and Wes Benson and the dearly loved husband of Sandra.

Jim was born in Lanigan and grew up in the Guernsey – Lanigan area and attended school in both communities settling permanently in Lanigan.  This is where he wanted to be.  Never had thoughts or wishes to move anywhere else.

His working career was 46 years at the Potash Mine by Guernsey.  Starting in the lab, he worked in various areas until becoming a Journeyman Electrician for the majority of his working years, starting underground and then moving above ground.

Jim and Sandra met in Saskatoon in May 2004 and sparks flew immediately. Sandra moved to Lanigan and they were married on August 18, 2007.

Jim had no specific hobbies but various interests.  Often said he liked making piles of sawdust with chunks of wood.  He enjoyed puttering around the yard and garden, helped build a few toolsheds and going fishing when the opportunity popped up.  Often a willing helper when someone needed an extra hand and for several years, he was involved with Church activities.  Eventually got the long longed-for RV, a 5th wheel, and truck.  They had many good camping trips together; their favourite was Cypress Hills.  There they both found the courage to zip-line!

Jim and Sandra had discussed many plans and options for their retirement years.  However, early 2025, Jim was diagnosed with advanced cancer.  Plans changed to appointments and treatments, but still good times spent together.  Jim faced it all with great strength and good humour.  Sadly, in the early hours of Saturday, March 28, 2026, Jim passed into a peaceful sleep with Sandra beside him.

Left to mourn are his loving wife Sandra and numerous nieces and nephews; also, special in-laws: Sandra’s brother Doug (Claire) Ball and their families; as well as families of her deceased brother Howard (Jolyne) Ball.  Also predeceased by his parents Ida and Wes; sister Olive (Mike) Krysa; brothers: Robert Benson and Howard (Mary Jane) Benson.

All who met Jim, met a good man and a good friend.

Always on my mind, forever in my heart. Love Sandra.

In lieu of flowers, Jim had asked if donations can be directed to Cancer Research.

Thank you to all for your prayers and kind wishes over the months.  A big thank you to Lanigan Hospital nurses and staff for the compassionate care Jim received.  He knew he was safe, loved and where he needed to be.

A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. from Christian Fellowship Church, Lanigan. Memorial donations in Jim’s memory may be directed to Cancer Research. Interment will follow at a later date at Sharon Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to MALINOSKI & DANYLUIK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM, Humboldt, 306-682-1622.
