Irene Lorraine (Ingenthron) Ooms

April 15, 1934 ~ March 19, 2022 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Obituary

Irene was born April 15th, 1934 in Prelate, SK to Augustin and Katherina (nee Redler) Ingenthron.  Irene worked very hard for a girl 9 years old.  She would conduct her chores like a man.  We all walked 2 miles to our country school in Peace Valley, SK.  We had grades 1 through 9 in the same room.  The teacher would let us go home early when we couldn’t see because of the dust storms.  There were two fence lines on each side of the back roads so we could follow this line as our guides.  Russian thistles were rolling by.  We wore a handkerchief around our faces so we could breathe.

In 1952, Irene left home to begin her work career.  She worked in Calgary, AB and then moved to Regina, SK to work in retail stores.  On February 22, 1954 Irene was blessed with a son, Orville Michael Ingenthron.  Irene began to work for Ross Reynolds in Nokomis, were she worked on his farm.  From here, Irene went to work for Charlie Johnson on his farm.  Irene and Orville were so welcomed by Charlie.  Charlie treated Orville as his son.  Paul Siewert was Charlie’s hired hand who also lived and worked on the farm.

While attending church in Nokomis, Irene met Adrian Ooms.  Adrian asked Irene to go for coffee on Easter week and then asked Irene to go to Easter Monday dance in Nokomis. Adrian bought his first car, which was a Plymouth, on June 2, 1958 in Watrous, SK.  On June 7, 1958, they got engaged and went to Danceland at Watrous Manitou Beach. Adrian and Irene were married on October 25, 1958 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nokomis, SK.

Of course, Adrian and Irene didn’t have much money, but they had the love for one another.  This was really great on a Sunday afternoon, for we would go out on picnics at Watrous Manitou Beach.  Adrian would have to take all his brothers and sisters along with them.  This was great to be all together as a family.

Irene loved her gardening and was known to have her own Burchard Gardens in Nokomis.  She also kept busy with the CWL as well as selling Avon, not to mention raising two boys.

Irene is predeceased by her son, Orville Michael Ooms and parents Augustin and Katherina Ingenthron. Surviving family is husband Adrianus Leonardis Marienus Godefrienus Ooms; son Roger Adrian Ooms, his wife Ann Joyce Hawk; grandchildren Heather Michelle Ooms, Sabrina Danielle Renskers, Sabrina’s husband Lane Kenneth Renskers; and great grandchildren Clarissa Ellen Renskers and Gracie Gauthier Renskers
