It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Islay Doreen Ehlert at the age of 74 years, on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson.
Islay was born February 25, 1951 to William and Hilda Sproule. She was born and raised in Watson, where she attended the local school and helped around the farm. Upon graduating, she went to Saskatoon where she attended university for a year, but her roots brought her back to Watson. Islay continued to attend classes at Carlton Trail while working at a restaurant in various positions, until she became a cook. Once she completed her classes, she worked for AG Canada for three years, until she became a financial planner with Investors Group. She would enjoy her work until her health started to decline and she decided to retire in 2020.
Islay married the love of her life, Doug Ehlert, on October 30, 1971, at Sacred Heart Parish in Watson. Together they raised four boys: Kevin, Russell, Murray, and Jeff. As the wife of a farmer, her time was spent raising the boys, tending to the large garden, as well as caring for the mixed livestock, which used up most of her free time. She enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for her family at home or in the field.
As the years went on, Islay and Doug were able to spend time at the lake, visiting their children and grandchildren. Islay loved to take time to watch her grandchildren play sports. She also enjoyed reading and volunteering with various local and district organizations. She was an active and influential member in provincial politics; campaigning for and advising members of the Sask Party; notably in Humboldt and Melfort areas since its inception in 1997.
Islay will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband DOUG Ehlert, four sons, and seven grandchildren; Kevin (Felecia) and children Logan, Rylan, and Jarren; Russell; Murray (Rhoda) and daughters Meikka and Kaistyn; and Jeff (Amanda) and daughters Jayda and Keira. She will also be remembered by her sister Maureen (Gordon) Martens, brothers Bill (Laurie) and Daryl Sproule, and numerous nieces and nephews. Islay was predeceased by her parents William and Hilda Sproule.
At this time, no services will be held. Memorial donations in memory of Islay can be directed to the Quill Plains Healthcare Foundation.
