James “Burt” Hyde, aged 80 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson, SK. Burt was born on November 29, 1940, in Watson, to James and Ellen (nee Harcourt) Hyde. He grew up on the family farm in the Lampard district, attending Sproule School until Grade 8. After leaving school, he started farming full time with his parents and later his brother Bob. In 1969, Burt met Diane Myhr at a snowmobiling party, and on October 11 of the same year, they were married. The couple settled on the home quarter and were blessed with two children, Lisa and Jim. They raised their children on the farm and lived there until moving to Watson in 2010. Burt’s interests included hunting, fishing, mechanic work, welding, carpentry, and restoring antique furniture. He loved flying and took his family and friends for many enjoyable rides in his Cessna 172, which he co-owned with his brother Bob. Upon retirement, Burt and Diane purchased a fifth wheel trailer and a fishing boat. They toured Western Canada with friends and enjoyed camping and fishing. Throughout his life, Burt was well versed in world events, was a voracious reader, and often got into debates with family and friends. He was always ready to give advice to anyone who would listen. Burt took pride in his family, farm, and a job well done – he could build or fix almost anything. Burt will be dearly missed by his two children, their spouses, and four granddaughters: Lisa (Farley) Josephson of Mozart, SK and family Kendra of Saskatoon and Heather of Regina; and Jim (Corrine) Hyde and family Nicole and Jenessa of Lloydminster, AB; sister Eleanor (Don) Auchstaetter of Wadena; sister-in-law Annette (Mark) Schmidtz of Watson; brother-in-law Paul Myden of Preeceville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Diane Hyde; parents James and Ellen Hyde; brother Robert “Bob” Hyde; parents-in-law Henry “Hank” and Gleniss Myhr; and sister-in-law Elaine Myden. A Private Graveside Service was held at Watson Public Cemetery. A Gathering for Family and Friends was held on Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. at New Horizons Senior Centre in Watson, SK. Memorial donations in Burt’s memory may be directed to Quill Plains Health Care Foundation or Watson Public Cemetery.
