Janis Lemke Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Janis Delaine Lemke 74 years of Bruno at the Humboldt District Hospital on Friday, November 7, 2025.

Janis was born on May 7, 1951 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Humboldt to William and Mildred (nee Ludwig) Lemke.  She grew up on a small farm near Bruno and later moved into town.

Janis obtained her elementary education at Bruno Public School and completed her High School at the St. Ursula Academy (Bruno).  She received training in piano, voice and music theory throughout her school years at the Academy, that training was augmented with attendance at summer classes at the highly regarded Lyell Gustin Piano Studios.  Following graduation from High School she embarked on further musical training at the University of Regina, entering the Bachelor of Music program with a focus on piano performance.  However, for personal and particularly health reasons, she withdrew before completion of the program.

She then established a music studio in Humboldt, and later also in Bruno where she taught piano, organ, voice and music theory.  In her more than 50 years of teaching, she taught hundreds of students, some of which were children and even grandchildren of former students.

Janis married her best friend and soul mate Ronald Bruesch in Bruno on June 25,1994.  They lived happily on the Lemke family farm until present.

She was very community minded and active in many organizations to name a few: Bruno Choir, CWL, Humboldt Festival Committee and St. Peter’s Choir.

Janis loved beauty in all its forms: beautiful music, beautiful artwork, beautiful furniture (particularly antiques), and the beauty of nature.  She loved working with and riding horses and had a particular passion for dogs - almost always having one or more as a constant companion.

She had passion to her faith, that was very evident as she regularly attended mass and was very committed and active at St. Bruno’s Parish. If you were privileged to see her play the organ, piano or hear her sing you would see her Infectious smile and sparkle in her eye throughout her performance.

Janis will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of 31 years Ronald Bruesch; brother Reynald Lemke; nieces, nephews and her music family through the area.

She was predeceased by her parents William and Mildred Lemke.

A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Bruno R.C. Parish in Bruno, celebrated by Fr. Pius Schroh.  Interment followed at St. Bruno Cemetery.  Memorial donations in Janis’s memory may be directed to St. Bruno Cemetery or Restoration Fund.
