Jean Dvernichuk Obituary

Jean was born on April 20, 1927 in the Winthorpe district to Theodore and Effie (Ostapowich) Zelizney. She attended Hazel School to grade 9.

Jean married Matt Dvernichuk on November 7, 1946 at the Edmore Church.  They farmed in the White Eagle District for three years, then in 1949 moved to a farm south of Leslie where they continued to farm until 1978.  In 1979 they retired to Buckhorn Bay at Fishing Lake, then  Jean and Matt moved to Foam Lake in 2002.

Jean and Matt worked hard together hand in hand on the farm. They loved being surrounded by family and friends and were always ready for some fun.  It may have included a competitive card game or an evening of dancing.

They were fortunate to travel to many destinations, especially BC to visit family there.

Jean especially enjoyed gardening, cooking, camping, campfires, needlework, the outdoors, bingo and listening to the Saturday Night Dance Party on the radio.

She also volunteered many hours with the “Perogy Ladies” enjoying social time and fundraising for the Foam Lake Community Hall.

Jean will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her two daughters, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren:

Angeline Kitzul of Wynyard and family Sheldon Kitzul and his children Benjamin and Amelia, and Chantelle (Geoff) Easton and daughters Samantha and Cassandra all of Victoria, BC;

Marilyn (Lyle) Lowenberger of Wynyard and family Bret (Melissa) Lowenberger and daughter Emily of Warman and Brea Lowenberger (Lars Ketilson) of Saskatoon; and by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Jean was predeceased by her parents Theodore and Effie Zelizney; husband Matt Dvernichuk; grandson Cory Kitzul; son-in-law Eugene Kitzul; siblings: John Zelizney, Alex Zelizney, Mary Korpatnisky, Katrina Ostapovich; nephews: Irwin and Barry Korpatnisky and niece Darlene Gogol; as well as members of the Dvernichuk family.

The family would like to thank everyone who reached out in our time of sorrow.  Also a very special thank you to all the staff  at the Foam Lake Jubilee Nursing Home for the wonderful care our mother received while she was a resident at your home.

A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. from Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home & Crematorium, Humboldt, led by Funeral Celebrant Deb Sararuer.  Interment followed at the Foam Lake Cemetery, Foam Lake.  Memorial donations in Jean’s memory may be directed to Foam Lake Jubilee Nursing Home.   Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt, 306-682-1622.
