John Lange Obituary

The death of Mr. John Gerhart Lange, 89 years, of Saskatoon and formerly of Humboldt occurred on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon.  John was born on February 25, 1931 to Bernard and Anna (nee Nienaber) Lange at home on the farm in the St. Gregor district.  He grew up there and attended Harvest School.  John helped on the family farm but also worked as a linesman for the telephone company following some schooling in Regina.  He worked for the telephone company from 1953 – 1969, putting up poles and lines in the local area.  On May 7, 1963 John married Thecla Meier.  They operated a mixed farm in the St. Gregor/Annaheim district, with a farrow to finish hog operation.  In 1992, they left the farm and moved to Humboldt.  He kept himself busy helping at St. Peter’s College during the harvest season and working at 7-Oaks in Watson as a hobby for a few years. John loved to garden and was very fond of his raspberry patch; he could pick berries for hours. John enjoyed meeting up with family and friends for a visit and coffee on a regular basis.  He also spent many hours creating woodworking projects - everything from furniture to grandfather clocks for his family.  John and Thecla had a seasonal campsite at Fishing Lake for 8 years where they enjoyed time with family and friends, camping and fishing.  In 2012, they moved to Saskatoon and they were able to spend lots of quality time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He loved visiting and teasing his many grandchildren with candies from his pocket.  John’s was devoted to his faith during his life and he was very disappointed this past year when he was unable to attend Mass regularly.  John will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, THECLA Lange of Saskatoon; their seven children, thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren:  YVONNE (Pierre) Gueguen of Humboldt and their family Nina (Russell) Nielsen and children Sophia and Gracie, Amy (Nikolaus) Danczak and daughter Adelia, and Andrew Gueguen (Emily Whittaker); RICHARD Lange (Tracy Hovde) of Saskatoon and his family Brandon Lange and Ryan Lange; YVETTE (Terrance) Pisio of Saskatoon and their family Blair (Jenna) Pisio and children Otys, Esmeé and Eleanor, and Brennon (Lindsay) Pisio and children Brooklyn and Laila; RALPH Lange (Sharon Dyck) of Saskatoon and his family Dustin Lange, and Dakota Lange (Candice Cutts) and children Keaton and Nikita; GREGORY (Vivian) Lange of Saskatoon; MYRNA (Kevin) Haeusler of Saskatoon and their family Mikila (Nelson) Merkosky and children Caleb and Brielle, and Landis Haeusler; and AARON Lange of Saskatoon and family Jersey Lange and Briggs Lange and their mother Jamie Lange; his siblings:  Agnes (John) Pratchler; Anna Back; and Margaret (Phylip) Zimmerman; sisters-in-laws: Marlene Lange, Rosemarie Lang, and Mary Lange; and brother-in-law Bill Frantz.  John was predeceased by his parents Bernard and Anna Lange; great grandson Oakley Merkosky; siblings: Sr. Anne Marie Lange OSE, Marie (Matt) Pratchler, Magdalene Frantz, Br. Bernard Lange OSB, Bernard Lang, Alois Lange, Joseph Lange and other infant siblings; and brother-in-law Ron Back.  The Private Family Funeral Mass for John was held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, celebrated by Fr. Joseph Salihu.  Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Saskatoon.  Memorial Donations in John’s memory may be made to Chalice (101 – 26 Union St. Bedford, NS B4A 2B5, chalice.ca).
