The death of Lawrence Moellenbeck, 87 years, of Humboldt and formerly of St. Gregor occurred on Friday, April 3, 2026. Lawrence was born on August 10, 1938 at home on the farm in the St. Gregor district to John and Josepha (nee Hellman) Moellenbeck. He was raised on the farm and attended South St. Gregor School, completing Grade 8. Lawrence and his brothers worked together on the farm with their dad until he eventually took over the family farm. They ran a mixed farming operation, including grain, cattle, pigs and chickens. On July 12, 1965 Lawrence married Mary Nienaber and they were blessed with two sons – Jim in 1966 and Randy in 1968. Lawrence was a farmer, through and through, and his life revolved around the land and the animals. He also very much enjoyed woodworking, making kitchen cupboards and many other items that his family still uses today. Lawrence was a jack of all trades and able to fix almost anything that needed fixing. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop and then later in his basement when they moved to town. In the early 2000’s, they retired and moved to Humboldt. While living in Humboldt, he became a regular on coffee row, enjoying the company of other retirees. Lawrence and Mary loved to walk and would spend many hours walking all over town. Above all else, Lawrence loved his family, he was so happy when they would call or come for a visit.
Lawrence will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Mary Moellenbeck of Humboldt; son Jim (Charlene) Moellenbeck of Saskatoon and their daughter Emilie; son Randy (Cheryl) Moellenbeck of Saskatoon and their family: Jenna (Ryan) Boivan and daughter Arielle; Tyler (Emily) Moellenbeck and children Natalie and Leo; Sheldon Moellenbeck (Geoffrey Svenke); Justin Moellenbeck; and Cathy (Brandon) Lozinsky and children Piper and Sophie; his siblings: Kay Porter of Lincoln City, CA, Loretta Reineke of Winnipeg, MB, and Bernard (Phyllis) Moellenbeck of Humboldt; sister-in-law Elizabeth Moellenbeck of Englefeld; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws of the Nienaber family. Lawrence was predeceased by his parents John and Josepha Moellenbeck; brother Arnold Moellenbeck; sister Imgard Moellenbeck; brothers-in-law Wally Porter and Meinolf Reineke; and by numerous in-laws of the Nienaber family.
The Funeral Mass for Lawrence was held on Friday, April 10, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt. Interment will take place later at the St. Gregory Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial Donations in Lawrence’s memory may be directed to St. Gregory Cemetery Fund or the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.
