Lawrence Paul Nakonechny was born on November 4, 1952 to Paul and Annie (Nakoneshny) Nakonechny in Humboldt. He was the youngest of nine children. Lornie attended the country school at Elmsville and then later he went to the Lanigan School.
Lornie enjoyed spending time with all of the animals on the farm especially the horses.
He worked on the family farm and later at various construction jobs and security.
Lornie’s interests included hunting, fishing, playing cards and watching movies.
He is survived by two sisters: Emelia (Reg) Gerwing of Lake Lenore and Sylvia (John) Cook of Saskatoon, and one brother Harvey (Cheryl) Nakonechny of Crossmount, and by numerous nieces and nephews;
Lornie was predeceased by his parents Paul and Annie Nakonechny; two sisters: Patricia Nakonechny and Marie (Fred) Gerwing; three brothers: Fred (Cecillia) Nakonechny, Joseph Nakonechny and Dave Nakoneshny; and two nephews Norman Gerwing and Brian Nakoneshny.
A Funeral Mass for Lornie was held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 10:00 am from St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Parish, Lanigan, celebrated by Fr. Augustine Osei-Bonsu. Interment followed at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Lanigan. Memorial donations in Lornie’s memory may be directed to Sacred Heart U.C. Cemetery.
