Leila was born on March 6, 1939 on the Otsig family farm located 4 miles NE of Leroy, SK, to George and Mary Otsig. Leila grew up in the area and attended Nadika Country School, from there she moved to Spalding where she worked at the hospital as a nurse and fell in love with her patient, Victor Olson.
Leila followed Victor to Lynn Lake, MB, where they were married on May 7, 1959. They moved from there to Calgary, AB and had 3 children, Heather, Rhonda and Calvin. They later moved back to Spalding, SK to fulfill Victor’s dream of owning his own garage. Shortly after, along came Leah and Darren.
Leila was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and caregiver. Leila enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, and so much more, but she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband, Victor, of 64 years, her 5 children, Heather (Richard) Draude of Red Deer, AB, Rhonda (Mark) Huebner of Spalding, SK, Calvin (Shannon) Olson of Thorsby, AB, Leah (Troy) Larsen of Red Deer, AB, Darren (Tracy) Olson of Red Deer, AB, 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, brothers Clarence Otsig of Naicam, SK, and Leonard (Elaine) Otsig of Leroy, SK and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Private Family Service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Leila's memory may be directed to Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation.
