It is with sadness that the family of Leonard Elmer Folden, 84 years, of St. Brieux announce his passing on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Melfort Hospital on his father’s birthday. Leonard was born in Humboldt on January 10, 1940 to Fay and Lorraine (nee Nickeson) Folden. He obtained his education until Grade 10 at Cameron School then high school in St Brieux, SK. Following high school, Leonard enrolled with the Navy and was stationed in Eastern Canada for 5 years. While he was with the Navy, he obtained his Electrician Certificate. Leonard then moved back to Saskatchewan and began working as an Electrician. He was blessed with two children, Derek and Lenni and later with two stepsons, Joel and Jason. Leonard was very adventurous and between working as an electrician and farming the family land in Daylesford, SK, he also owned hotels in Southern Saskatchewan. However, farming was his passion and the pull of the land kept Leonard coming back year after year well into his 70’s. Leonard enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Yuma and many destinations in Canada and the USA. Winter activities took him to the frozen lakes to ice fish in hopes of catching the “Big One”, while the summers kept him busy out at the Daylesford farm, where he found tranquility, surrounded by nature, enjoying the peace and quiet. Leonard was a very friendly man and loved to visit with everyone, he had lots of friends near and far with whom he stayed connected to. His final move was to Chateau Providence in St. Brieux where he adjusted very well and enjoyed his time there. Leonard will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his two children and two grandchildren: Derek (Bev) Folden of Alsask, and son Dawson Troendle of Oyen, AB; Lenni Folden and son LJ Noel Folden-Rogers of Calgary, AB; two stepchildren: Joel (June) Fradette of Saskatoon and Jason (Jolyne) Fradette of Radville; brothers and sisters: Viola (Doug) McPherson of Regina, Marlene (Norman) Fagnou of Saskatoon, Grant (Jeannine) Folden of Shellbrook, and Janice (Rod) Heise of Kronau; numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends. Leonard was predeceased by his parents, Fay and Lorraine Folden and sister, Joyce Folden. A Funeral Service was held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home & Crematorium in Humboldt, officiated by Lt. Glenna Cryderman. Interment followed at the Humboldt Public Cemetery on the anniversary of his mother’s death. Memorial donations in Leonard’s memory may be directed to ALS Society of Saskatchewan or Kid’s Cancer Care.
