It is with great sadness that the family of Loretta Durant announce her passing on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Humboldt District Hospital at the age of 81, with the love of her family and friends surrounding her.
Loretta Annette Durant was born in Saskatoon, SK on September 20, 1940 to Alex and Mary (nee Tokar) Shepelwik. Her childhood years were spent in the Tisdale and Melfort area. Loretta held various jobs through the years, approaching them all with passion and excellence. Her resume included the positions of legal secretary, retail manager, seamstress, and selling Avon. No matter what her job was, Loretta’s foremost priority was in creating a welcoming, loving home for, not only her family, but everyone she met. We remember her as the resident expert of cooking, baking, gardening, and sewing. We are sure half of the population of Quill Lake is wearing clothing sewn or mended by Loretta - if they still fit into it after eating her delicious food, especially butter tarts! Loretta was always the organizer of family events, weddings, funerals, big birthdays, and many disasters were avoided as a result of Loretta’s wise advice. She also enjoyed reading, sudoku, and especially playing card games with family and friends. Loretta was a dedicated member of the United Church for many years, sitting on numerous church boards.
Loretta will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband Goldwin; children Roxanne (Brian) Skopyk, Jacquie (Gary) Scheffler, Paul (Maureen) Durant, and Elizabeth (Randy) Sawatzky; grandchildren Caroline, Jordan, Rhayna (Nick), Allison, Ethan, and Peyton; her brothers Lorrance (Janet) Shepelwik, Don (Marg) Shepelwik, and sister Joan Dwyer; as well as numerous other family members and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Alex and Mary Shepelwik, brother-in-law Tim Dwyer, niece Trina, great niece Rumor Dwyer, sister-in-law Doris Shepelwik, and daughter-in-law Darlene Durant.
A Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Wesley United Church, Quill Lake, officiated by Rev. Brenda Curtis. Memorial donations in Loretta's memory may be directed to Wesley United Church or Quill Lake Cemetery Fund.
