Lorne Paetsch Obituary

Lorne Paetsch passed away, with his daughter at his side, Sunday, July 17, 2022, at the Humboldt District Hospital. Lorne was born to Albert and Clara Paetsch (nee Brenner) on December 3, 1942, on his grandparent’s family farm near Esk.

Lorne grew up in Jansen on the family farm at the edge of town. Milking dairy cows, grain farming, and looking after every animal his parents had. He attended school in Jansen until grade 10, then completed grades 11 and 12 in Lanigan.

After high school Lorne moved to Saskatoon and worked for Western Tractor in the parts department for 3 years. While living in Saskatoon he struck up a friendship with Dianne Koshinsky, also from Jansen, and they were married in 1963 in Saskatoon. They were blessed with a daughter Leigh-Ann.

In the summer of 1964 Lorne and Dianne purchased the Jansen Hotel. They remained in the Hotel business from 1964 – 1978. Lorne did travelling sales for Sanfax Industries until Dianne became ill. In 1981 they purchased the Jansen M&M grocery store which later became Jansen Food Town. Dianne passed away in February 1988.

Lorne married Connie Bjornson (Koshinsky) in the fall of 1990, after getting reacquainted at a family reunion. Together they ran the grocery store until they retired in 2011. Through the years they enjoyed the cabin at Marine Lake with their combined family. They loved having the grandkids come and spend time with them every summer. Everyone looked forward the big Christmas gatherings as the family continued to grow.

Connie passed away in July 2017.

Over the years Lorne served as Mayor and councillor for Jansen for 17 years. He served on numerous boards, Lerose Lodge, Lanigan Hospital, Zion Lutheran Church, Jansen Cemetery, Hall and Rink Boards. Lorne and was a charter member of the Jansen District Kinsmen Club.

Lorne had a great sense of humor right until the end. All his visits included a story and a joke. Lorne embodied the good of Jansen. His endless knowledge of the history, his devotion to the community, his sense of humor, and that smile and chuckle that drew people in and made them want to be around him were special.

Lorne will be forever missed by his daughter Leigh-Ann (Dan) Moroz and their son Mitchell; his step sons: Sheldon Bjornson and Kirk (Desiree) Bjornson, and their children Jakob and Olivia; his brother-in-law Dwayne (Val) Koshinsky and their family Kelly (Dan) Bosch and son Micah; Beth (Clark) Giesbrecht and daughter Selah; and Emily Koshinsky; and his “other daughter” Linda (Elmer) Kinzel and their children Corey (Nicole) and daughter Lauren, and Sandy.

Lorne was pre-deceased by his wife Dianne Koshinsky; wife Constance “Connie” Bjornson Koshinsky; Parents Albert and Clara Paetsch and step-mom Sophie Senechen, parents-in-law Edward and Frida Koshinsky, and Reinhold and Clara Koshinsky; brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Linda Koshinsky.

A Funeral Service for Lorne was held Friday, July 22, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Jansen, SK. Interment followed at the Jansen Community Cemetery. Memorial donations in Lorne’s memory may be directed to Jansen Community Cemetery or Jansen Community Garden.
