Mac was born to Mary (Bzdel) and Andrew Leshchyshyn on November 1, 1924 in Elfros, SK. As a child and youth, Mac attended the Royal Rock School. As a teen and young man, he enjoyed playing ball and spent many weekends walking several miles to the nearest ball tournament hoping to be picked up by one of the teams. He played ball into his early 40’s. In his younger years, he also enjoyed dancing and pedaling his bike around the countryside. At the age of 17, he went to Toronto to work in a factory. When he was working in Toronto, he realized his heart was in farming, and he returned home to work with his father on the farm.            

Mac married Agnes Woynarski on June 1, 1947, in West Bend, SK. He was so proud to have worked alongside Agnes for 47 years, growing their farm with chickens, pigs, turkeys, cattle, and crops. He also helped Agnes with her large garden. They were blessed with 4 beautiful children.            

Mac and Agnes were able to enjoy trips to Alberta, British Columbia, and England, to visit their children and grandchildren. He was always willing to help a neighbour with combining, grain hauling, or just helping out until just a few years ago. He resided in the same home that he and Agnes moved into when they retired to Wynyard in 1989, until his passing.   

Mac will be sadly missed by his four children: Theresa (Glorian) Keyowski; Stephania (Thom) Gibb; Jeanette Bearss; and Dave (Suzanne) Leshchyshyn; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. Mac is survived by sisters-in-law Emily Madey, Elsie Moroz, Katie Borowski, and Anne Davey; brother-in-law Stan Woynarski and Arnold Davey; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mac was predeceased by his wife Agnes; parents Mary and Andrew; son George (in infancy); brothers Mike and Steve; son-in-law Jackson; and several brother & sisters-in-law.         

A Funeral Service for Mac was held on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. from Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wynyard, SK, celebrated by Rev. Jeffrey Stephaniuk. Interment followed at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Cemetery. A recording of the service will be available for viewing until Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at md-funeralhome.ca. Memorial donations in Mac’s memory may be directed to Sacred Heart U.C. Church (Box 728, Wynyard, SK, S0A 4T0).
