We welcome you to provide your thoughts and memories on our Tribute Wall.

Marlene Elena Slater
April 16, 1939 – November 29, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family announces the unexpected death of Marlene Elena (nee Lange) Slater, 86 years, of Middle Lake, at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, on Saturday, November 29, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Marlene was born on April 16, 1939, to Arthur and Emma (nee Schmidke) Lange in the Middle Lake District.  She obtained her education at Wilfred School and later went to Luther College in Regina. Marlene was employed at Saskatchewan Wheat Pool office in Regina for a few years.

Marlene and Ken met and they began dating and were married on June 26, 1959. They were blessed with three children: Sandra, Randall, and Bradley. They had a few moves over the years and then settled in Middle Lake on the family farm.  Marlene loved her life on the farm working side by side with Ken.  She was a very hard-working woman, who maintained a huge vegetable garden with countless hours of preserving the produce for the family in the winter.

For relaxation she loved to read and watch movies. Marlene also loved long walks with her golden retrievers in the countryside, where she would admire the wildflowers and always had a good eye to come home with a few unique special rocks.

She had a passion for music, from learning how to play piano when she was a young girl to later on in life learning how to play guitar. She loved singing, the church hymns were her favourite. Marlene and Ken went to many local dances where they would gracefully dance the night away.

Marlene was a great cook and baker; rumor has it she made the “best” Homemade bread in the country and always had some on hand to share with friends that would stop by. She also had interest in crocheting and enjoyed bowling with her friends in Middle Lake.

Marlene was a very strong independent woman who continued to live independently and was still able to drive until her passing. She had a very strong faith and attended the Faith Lutheran Church in Middle Lake. There was also a bit of a competitive side to her, especially when she would be watching the “Blue Jay’s”, she was very disappointed that they didn’t win the title this year!

Marlene was such a loving, caring, kind, and generous woman. She will be Forever missed and lovingly remembered by her three children, two grandchildren, one great grandson, two step grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren:

SANDRA (Blaine) Deering of Creston, BC;

RANDALL (Aileen) Slater of Wakaw and family: Desirae Slater of Calgary and son Dreymon; Bronson Slater (Shelbey Murray) of Saskatoon; step grand-children Stephanie (Brandon) Holmes of Neuhorst and children Taylor Mae, and Brianne; and Terrilyn Quiring of Osler and daughter Kate;

 BRADLEY Slater (Val Mellof) of Middle Lake;

Sister Lillian Faulkner of South Hampton, ON; sisters-in-law: Doreen Lange of Rosthern, Doreen Brown of Saskatoon, Murial Heddon of Chilliwack, BC, Anne Folden of Saskatoon, and Lorraine Perault of Saskatoon; brother-in-law Norm Kitter of Wakaw; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Marlene was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Slater, parents Arthur and Emma Lange, brother Verner Lange, sister Elizabeth Lange, and members of the Slater family.

A Funeral Service was held on Friday, December 5, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. officiated by Jakob Valsson at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home & Crematorium, Humboldt. Interment will follow at a later date at Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Middle Lake. Memorial donations in Marlene’s memory may be directed to Heart & Stroke Foundation or Bethany Pioneer Village (Middle Lake).

The Broken Chain

We little knew that morning,

that God was going to call your name.

In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you,

you did not go alone for part of us went with you

the day God called you home.

You left us peaceful memories,

your love is still our guide and though,

we cannot see you, you are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken,

and nothing seem the same, but as God calls us,

one by one, the chain will link again.
