June 2, 1937 ~ April 26, 2020 (age 82)

Obituary

Milton Norgaard, age 82, passed peacefully on the morning of April 26th, 2020 at the Foam Lake Jubilee Nursing Home. Milt was born to Asta (nee. Pederson) & Robert Norgaard June 2nd, 1937 in Swan River, Manitoba where he grew up alongside his two sisters until he graduated from high school. He entered the workforce right out of school with the Toronto Dominion Bank and that moved him to Langenburg, Saskatchewan where his family would grow by the birth of his two sons, Vincent and Robert Norgaard.

Life would lead him to settle into the community of Foam Lake, Saskatchewan to grow a new business known as Gemini Holdings/Norgaard Construction, a company he would own and run for 40+ years. On November 11th, 1988 he married the love of his life Cheryl Royle at the Foam Lake United Church.  He grew roots in the community as a businessman, member of council and eventually becoming Mayor from 1985-1991. He was an incredible musician versed in guitar, bass, piano and song, especially playing alongside his wife as she learned the fiddle. Milt was part of various bands, as well as the church choir, throughout his lifetime and found such joy in sharing his love of music with others.

He and his wife Cheryl shared a love of football and offered their unconditional support to the local high school team, The Foam Lake Panthers. They were dedicated fans in the stands and provided monetary support as well as structural support, as his crew installed the irrigation system in the field. He loved the Saskatchewan Roughriders and had his flags out in the front yard on game days throughout the season, a tradition his wife continued even as he made his new home at the Foam Lake Jubilee Nursing Home.

Milt is survived by his loving, devoted wife Cheryl (nee Royle) Norgaard of 31 years; sons Vincent Norgaard and Robert (Cheryl) Norgaard; step-children Pat (Colleen) Elynuik and Paula (Jeff) Kelly; his sisters Babs Leslie and Darlene (Lorne) Hovdestad; his Grandchildren Kathy Norgaard, Robert Norgaard, Daniel Norgaard, Devon Norgaard, Jessica Norgaard, Larissa (Chase) Muirhead, Jennifer (Tyrel) Muirhead, Campbell Elynuik, Jakson Elynuik, Hudson Elynuik, Brendan Kelly, Nolan Kelly and many great-grandchildren; and also by his Nieces and Nephews and friends who were much like family.

Milt was predeceased by Father Robert Norgaard, Mother Asta Lauritsen, Step-Father Peter Lauritsen, Daughter-in-law Trina Norgaard, Brother Douglas Norgaard (in infancy) and Brother-in-law Ron Leslie.

A special thank you to the staff at the Foam Lake Jubilee Nursing Home for their care they gave Milt during his time with them.
