Myrtle Pauline (nee Anderson) Henning, 91, passed away on November 8, 2023, at Humboldt, SK. She was born February 20, 1932, on the family farm to Carl (Charlie) and Elma (nee Nelson) Anderson. She was their 11th and youngest child. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all her family.
As a young girl Myrtle attended Mintern School (#772) and then completed her grades eleven and twelve at LeRoy High School. She enjoyed and excelled at school, graduating a year early at the age of 17. She applied to then attended nursing school at Yorkton General Hospital for three years, graduating in 1953 as a RN and receiving the Dr. Portnuff’s Obstetric Award. She nursed at Yorkton General Hospital after graduating, until returning home to LeRoy in 1954 to work at LeRoy Hospital. She continued to work there until it closed. Later in life she worked as an RN at Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan and Lerose Lodge in LeRoy.
Myrtle married Elmer Henning, the neighbor’s son, on July 20, 1954. Together they farmed at LeRoy for many years. They were blessed with three children and were married for 53 years.
Throughout her life, Myrtle was active in her church and community. She enjoyed travelling, curling, reading, quilting, sewing, knitting, teaching 4H knitting, and making many toques for the Guardian Angels. She was an avid gardener and a fabulous cook and baker.
Myrtle was so kind and cared so deeply for her family and friends, she made a positive impact on many lives. She will be loved always. Until we meet again in heaven.
Myrtle was predeceased by her husband Elmer; son Pastor Kelly; and her ten older siblings: Albert, Cora, Effie, Omar, Ellen, Clara, Agnes, Arnold, Orion, and Evelyn.
She is loved and survived by her two daughters: Tannis Henning and Margot (Dr. Patrick) Mihalicz and their children Nastassia, Patrick (Lisa), and Aaron; by numerous relatives; and many good friends.
A Special Thank You to Dr. Bourgeois for providing Myrtle with special care during her fight with cancer. Thank you also to Humboldt Hospital chemo department, lab, and the inpatient ward for their endless care.
Donations in Myrtle’s memory may be directed to Saskatoon Cancer Centre (20 Campus Drive, Saskatoon SK S7N 4H4) or the LeRoy Cemetery Care Fund (Please make cheques payable to Town of LeRoy, Box 40, LeRoy, SK, S0K 2P0). A Private Graveside Service will be held at a later date.
